Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [13th - 17th September 2014]

If Pardew has two games to save his job I don't rate his chances.

Southampton away was our worst performance last season and the season before. Good to see Pardew is learning from past mistakes.

that's ****ing comical 1-1

johnson just walks through our defence. why oh why is kaboul playing?!

Weren't Spurs fans all talking about how utterly brilliant Kaboul was only a couple seasons ago? he's awful, he's all strength and energy but no brain at all. That will work occasionally but much more often than not he makes mistakes that cost Spurs points.

Poch making absolutely the right call to bring in multiple defenders and I assume at some point being able to field an effectively new back four. The next step will be to move on Kaboul, Walker, Rose and bring in another three players and have decent first team and back up.

Rose, Dawson, Kaboul, Walker.... is a truly comical back line.

Hey, Alan; the deep floated free-kick for the big man to head back across goal hasn't worked since Carroll and Nolan left.

Dembele/strombouli/bentaleb/Paulinho need to be coached on how to link the defence and attacks and how to play turnovers.

Capoue is playing the defensive midfielder well but we are not linking well with our attacking 4.

Soton sold their entire team and still are a better footballing side. Amazing banter.

I wish Pardew would go and fight in Ukraine armed with nothing but his notepad.

Southampton have also spent double what Newcastle have, they sold 5 first team players and bought about 5. Spending over the last three years is roughly speaking £125mil vs about £65mil.

EDIT:- this was in response to nemtizz... not cm :p

Well done, lovely thing to say, really lovely. Likewise they've only bought what 12 Shane longs, each and every player of identical quality. What a good way to determine if their spending has been effective.

Southampton are actively spending(through youth team bringing through high value players) way way more than Newcastle. They have brought a LOT of quality players in the past three years, picking out one player you think isn't good doesn't change the point... unless you want to suggest every newcastle buy has been outstanding which I doubt you are arguing.

Pelle and Tadic look quality, I personally like Long a lot, Mane has huge potential, Lovren was a great buy, Wanyama is top notch, Osvaldo was a poor buy. Rodriguez was a great buy, Clyne and they've had multiple players come through from the youth team in that period as well.

75% possession to spurs 7 shots on target i think. 1-1 :/

We are all tease and no purpose. We get to the last third quickly and then stop because we haven't developed any understanding or purpose.

The attacking players are dropping deep and no one is running into the box off the ball. Adebayor is never an option.

I hope time will sort that out.

Haven't been watching the Spurs game today, last game I saw Lamela was great, quite like Wilshere in wanting the ball, driving forwards, going around one or two players by turning players as he picks up the ball but ahead of him like with Arsenal, very little movement. Lamela/Wilshere will do something good open up the field and run in to space but those ahead doing nothing, standing still or getting the ball and slowing down an attack. Eriksen was really poor in the last game, slowing everything down while Lamela looked like the only dynamic player making anything happen.

Same situation?
