I didn't see it all, was Terry subbed off?
Hopefully this means he's on the decline!
The whole team has declined so I wouldn't pin it on his age or ability yet. If Chelsea really came back way later than everyone else then well, see how they are in a month. However the decline in performances was obvious throughout last year amongst many players.
As I previously said, Costa coming into last season off the back of a great season was brilliant and absolutely domineering. Last season though even when 'fit' he wasn't training much over a period of time that takes its toll for sure. He became way less sharp and effective over the season with a bigger decline in the last few months. He still scored though less often, but his all around performances were far far less battering ram style and more only taking a few shots and falling over a hell of a lot.
For someone like Terry coming back to training late isn't a great idea, you get older and you won't automatically get slower or less fit but it will usually take more training to reach the same level. You have to work harder the older you get and having extra holiday time won't help him out there.
But again, this is classic Mourinho sides, lose a little attacking creativity month on month till he gets fired for being a defensive bore who can no longer win games with that tactic any more. The only reason Real improved in his second year offensively is because they effectively said you're fired or you play more attacking football. He was forced into it, it certainly didn't come naturally.
Neville was laughable today though, had a hard on for Fabregas who made multiple tackles, did loads of great defensive work and spent all last season being incredibly important defensively and insisted he was useless time and time again. His freekicks sucked, but he's never been a great freekick taker so nothing really new there. He even went on about how they started him further forward but had to drop him into central midfield in the charity shield game as 'proof' he was bad defensively, even though it actually meant Ramires was sucking badly in there and they dropped Fabregas back in there where he was far better defensively.
Neville was great in his first year but he's fast becoming as unbearable as the rest. Having him complain about City having the nerve to attack against a woeful Chelsea when only 1-0 up with 25 mins to go was ridiculous. If Chelsea stole a goal they'd be in trouble, they were by FAR the better team and had no reason at all to back off, it would have been ridiculous to settle for 1 and risk a single counter from Chelsea ruining it.
