Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 19th October 2016]

Slamming a player for not somehow undoing a defence by himself is just stupid. Especially in the second half as he had to come deep to help Herrera because Fellaini did nothing all half. A person's price is irrelevant if you don't have the right players around them. You could have stuck Messi where Pogba was last night and he would have done nothing too.

The daily mail gave him 5/10 this morning....they gave Young 7. It's just stupid really.

Fellaini was fine for the first 30 mins when we were in control. As soon as Liverpool upped their pace though he was hopeless and the game passed him by completely. He's just never, ever going to be a top tier player.

People and the media were ask expecting Liverpool to thump us with their "brilliant" attackers but as it ended 0-0, we are getting called boring. We weren't that boring, granted we could have been better a bit.
Not many teams will win at Anfield, draw won't look bad when City, Spur's, Arsenal etc will all lose there.

You were labeled boring because you turned the game into an absolute ****show. The constant time wasting at every stoppage, niggly fouls, the back 6, ridiculous time wasting at substitutions.

United were dire, they barely attacked and even when they did they committed in twos and threes.

I'm not even sure who was playing as part of this supposed back six. Ridiculous time wasting? I didn't see any time wasting except Young, who let's face it is a ****. Fouls, we made 20, you did 14. Again, nothing extreme. You're just being silly.

He is being slammed as he has been rubbish since he moved.

Put Messi, Suarez, Bale, Ronaldo in a mediocre team and they will do something that indicates their quality. Pogba does/did nothing.

Well Liverpool looked more likely to win than we did.

Howpmany clear cut chances did we have? How many times did we reign heavy shots to test their keeper?

It was poor attacking wise and poor defensively.

Pogba isn't living up to his price tag and one good cross in 90 minutes won't cut it.

Completely agree with this. He's been bang average since arriving and for the price tag (I don't care if he's playing at Sunderland) he should be doing big things.
Even Xhaka has made more of an impact without playing half as much.

I think Pogba hype was up there in the stratosphere when you could see at the euros he wasn't actually performing that well. Never seen him boss it in the biggest games for Juventus either.

And in the league Juve just cruise it anyway so it's not exactly a huge test for the man.

No substance so far.

I found the match a little depressing. If you have the luxury of spending more than almost anyone on players, you should be able to out play most teams playing the way you dictate.

It would be fine taking the point if I thought we were looking to move in that direction but it doesn't seem likely.

I know this is classic mourinho but I guess I hoped he would be flexible enough to change. Whilst i'm having a moan, it's also disappointing to see the Rooney problem looking like it might be dealt with, only to realise we may have another with zlatan. Despite his goals, his general game has been poor. This wouldn't be a problem if we would switch him with someone like Martial. But given he's yet to be taken off (i think) and the general impression you get about his personality/relationship with mourinho, I don't expect it.

Actually Liverpool started the ****show in the first half by turning up **** for at leas tthe first 1/2 hour.

Of course Liverpool never waste time or commit niggly fouls or take time up by long subs away from home - would never dream of it........(just like every team in the league)

United werent great, but neither were Liverpool - 3 shots on target wasnt it for the whole game? Yeah you really really battered Utd ....not

Hold on - majority of those are goal scorers well settled into the league they are playing in (not to mention 3+ years older than Pogba with experience to go with it)

Pogba has played what 8 games with his team in a league he is adjusting to after 4 years in a much less competitive league surrounded by completely top of the line team mates ( not to mention playing directly opposite someone who has 5? years experience in the league in a pretty oppressive atmosphere. Give.Him.Time.To.Adjust

Liverpool certainly didn't play well for the first 30 minutes (we didn't play well all game if truth be told) but it wasn't down to negative tactics.

And everything is relative Frank. All sides will commit fouls or waste time here and there in certain situations but rarely will you see a so called big side do it to the extent Utd did. The only other times I can recall it is from other Mourinho sides. I didn't mention it at the time but 1 other positive to take from the game from our point of view is it gave us some preparation for facing Pulis' West Brom side on Saturday, although I'm not sure they'll be as negative tbh.

Ref made it easy for utd by keeping the cards in the dressing room in the 1st half

not to mention not booking Liverpool players for just as innocious tackles as Utd players were booked for....

Average positions for both sets of players was also about equal (with only three or four of each team being beyond the half way line) - I think the Telegraph published this yesterday, so even by that standard Liverpool didnt exactly spend that much time in Utd's half - I would call that pretty negative from the home side.

Me? Why would I be butthurt exactly?

I didn't quote, you, so why would you think it's aimed specifically at you?

It's aimed at loads of people in here.

A manager who...

is new to a club,
isn't sure of his best lineup
has some players missing from the team
hasn't had an amazing start to the season
has one reasonable defender

...decides to sets up a team to not concede/lose (which would mean potentially drifting away from top 4 already) against a team who has been pretty rampant and high pressing - is getting stick because we paid a lot of money for players so we should be going all out attack in every match?

It's not so easy in the real world. Look at the last few seasons - last season we would have had 99% possession and Pool would have caught us on the counter or when we tried to pass it around at the back...

Let's not forget the dodgy ref too ;)

Because you didn't quote anybody but your post was directly after mine.

It's lucky I thought you were aiming it at me because I might have given you an infraction for it had it been said to somebody else. That and the Arsenlol type posts **** me off no end.

Perhaps you need to be less emotional when it comes to moderating then?

It was hardly an insult and pretty tame compared to some of the tripe that people usually spout.

To clarify...this post is intended to be non-condescending.

Huh? The fact that I let you off as I assumed it was aimed at me surely shows I'm anything but emotional when it comes to moderating.

I want to stop all the bs baiting posts like your post. It added nothing to the thread but had the potential to cause an argument.
