Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16 - 21st August 2013]

Dembele is very strong and good in the more defensive side of his game, but Fulham and Spurs more recently seem to have been pushing him further and further back. He was an excellent playmaker/forward when he joined Fulham, didn't score an awful lot but was involved in everything, brilliant football brain, made things happen and that's what Spurs need.

THen Fulham moved him to a more wide striker, then more central midfielder/attacking midfielder, and at Spurs its an even deeper role to let Sig or Dempsey play ahead of him.

Chamakh looks very raw/out of form, but his movement is still good and the pass through for Gayle not long after coming on is what he's really quite good at. Given some game time, starts and form I think he can be very effective for them.

Hasn't Mata had a long summer, and there is an argument to be made that being as its Hull, this isn't necessarily an indication of the first team. I don't think its particularly surprising to see Torres get a start, see if Mourinho can get anything out of him before deciding if he should be sold or not.

Dembele can drift pass anyone with is touch and strength but he is not very good at picking passes to release runners. I hope this part of his game develops as this is what, his 3rd season of playing in central midfield?

Another bad miss from Defoe :(

MW

He's just come on, it's the start of the season, his movement and holding the ball has already been his usual high standard. Finishing, sharpness, that's form and all players including Messi miss sitters, the movement, getting in those positions, thats what makes Defoe a great striker and he's already shown that ability in a very short amount of time on the pitch.
