Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16 - 21st August 2013]

They need to implement a challenge system for things like that, all of this talk and gloating about goal line technology and shocking decisions like that still happen, imagine if it was still 0-0.

then you will get idiots complaining about there would be no talking points in the game if all dodgy decisions are removed.

Wasn't Chris Hughton manager then and Pardew just scrubbed of his team and a year later, Pardew has no idea what he's doing?

He was, took over the team when they went down. Brought them back up, exceed everyone's expectation (which was bottom half fighting for survival) and was comfortable top 1/3 of the table when he was sacked.

Yeh I felt really sorry for Hughton when he was sacked at Newcastle.

It was a terrible decision.

I don't think we can judge Cities quality or potential on tonight, we were abysmal and the only fight we showed was Taylor's close line on Aguero.

City looked decent but they need to play a team with ability and desire before we can really call it.

Pardew's last transfer windows signing's have sucked and Norwich are in a much better position now anyway. Newcastle to get relegated.

Sissoko, Debuchery and Goufran (to a lesser extent Mbwia) all look decent/good but he plays them out of position, in a team full of other players playing out of position.

Unsurprisingly this effects a players performance level, he's not the right man for the team but the with the whole situation as it is I doubt many people would be the right man.

Newcastles hope will be the same as last season, that there are enough other teams who are worse.

Do people rate Cisse? He's scored a few good goals but whenever I see him he's weak, slow, the ball bounces off him too easily. I'm just never impressed.

Ben Arfa on the other hand.. Newcastle will be relying on him a lot this season if tonight was anything to go by.

He doesn't do it for me. Scores the odd scorcher, but otherwise offers little.

Needs a strike partner. He just cant lead the line by himself that is clear.

We started the match as 433 but 10 mins into the game we switch to a 451. We did this all last season how is a team meant to cope training one way then switch before we even get started... Then the sending off we switched again

We have good players with a decent squad.

Pardew is a Muppet. I was all down for giving him time. He earn't it when we finished 5 but gee's it looks like the same problems as last season but he has a fit squad and no excuses.

Discipline last night was shocking.

I know it's only the first game of the season and it was against one of the best teams in the league but I really do despair with Newcastle sometimes.

The next couple of home games will hopefully show a bit more character but if this season continues along the same lines as the second half of last season I'm going to find another hobby.

That's coming from someone who's stuck by them through thick and thin for the last 20 years despite on- and off-pitch drama.

When something becomes more painful than enjoyable you have to start questioning what's the point…

Shocking display, and yet again Pardew getting tactics all wrong again.

He can't seem to control the players nor get the best out of them either. Sissoko entered the league with a storm, now Pardew has ruined his style of play. Tiote used to be an amazing defensive midfielder, now can't win a tackle to save his life.

Mbiwa should have played central with Colo. They looked decent second half. Dummett was the only positive from tonight. I've been hounding my mates all week that he should have started. Hopefully after tonight everyone can realise how terrible Taylor actually is. We all love him because he puts his body on the line, and is a "Geordie" (he's not actually). He's slow, irratic, can't read the game.

Debuchy also had a stinker, and would happily see him clear off with his mate Cabaye.

Cisse has been ruined aswell. He's frustrated every game, a complete different picture to his emotions when he first arrive banging goals in with his mate.

Pardew just cannot put a team together that works. I'm sick of it, and I'm sick of his excuses. He went into the game accepting to lose. That rubbed off on the players, and they were beaten before the whistle even blew.
