Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 20th May 2015]

Frank you are being nuts. Why would he get a game ahead of de Gea? And that was far from an easy save to make. I'm not conviced de Gea would have saved it but then he probably wouldn't have gone down so early. I doubt Valdes is going to replace de Gea but to judge him on those two things is mad.

That's the whole point he wouldn't have gone down so easily and therefore would have made an easy save.

IF Valdes was any good in training etc he would have gotten more 1st team time before now, even if it was only in the FA Cup or vs the likes of Burnley / QPR etc

Its also the case that if Utd really thought VV was the way forward as outright first choice then they would want him to have as many "live" EPL games this season to get used to the league given how different La Liga and EPL are - as Utd have known for months that there is a significant chance DDG is off for good in may.

De Gea wouldn't have gotten more than U21 games if he was playing at Bayern this year. The team were also adapted to De Gea already, he has a relationship with the defenders, something gk's need so also had a massive advantage.
.

I didn't realise Bayern are possibly/probably losing their outright 1st choice gk this summer.........ie that isn't in any shape or form a valid comparison.

Frank not grasping a simple concept and entirely missing the point of a post.... nothing new then.

You completely missed my initial point - so you should clap yourself.....apart from the fact you were completely wrong as Reina has made three appearances for BM this season so its highly unlikely DDG wouldn't have got at the very least those same three chances

Messed up 2nd spot but that should be good enough for 3rd. Cup final coming up.

Given Chelsea already won the league well ahead of us and City I'm not too fussed - they were always going to lose a bit of drive with automatic qualification only requiring 3rd and that being all that was left to play for, but probably didn't expect to lose to Swansea and had to luck-out a bit day. Still, only need 1 point from two home games now against West Brom (who're waiting to go on holiday) and Sunderland (possible relegation candidates) - if we'd have lost today I'd have been worried about 4th being a real possibility but as it stands we should be okay. Sanchez/Cazorla have looked a bit weary the last two games so a comfortable lead by half-time in the next game and some rest, plus given some other players a run out in the last game would be ideal.

You still don't get it. I didn't miss your initial point, you didn't understand the comparison.

I was pointing out that regardless of being a great keeper, if there is a better keeper then you still won't get games. Reina didn't get games because he kept Reina out of the team, he got games because Neuer was rested before big champs league games. Yes, had De Gea been there he would have played those games... which would have been 3 out of what, 60 games for a club like Bayern.

Which merely reinforces what MULTIPLE people all told you. De Gea, regardless of how good he was, would barely have played at Bayern because Neuer is better. Had Utd been in the CL this year and had big games Valdes would have played more games before/after CL games at Utd.

Your initial point wasn't complex and multiple people called you on it as being ridiculous. You were saying Valdes was obviously not good enough or he'd have played more. Valdes could be the second best keeper in the world but if he's at the club with the best keeper in the world, he won't get anything but a few games when resting the keeper is deemed more important.

The comparison I made was how De Gea would get treated at bayern, which you've confirmed, with another very good keeper in Reina getting only games deemed unimportant. Would De Gea be not good enough because he only played 3 games?

You claimed my comparison was invalid... because Neuer isn't about to leave Bayern... but my comparison had nothing to do with players leaving, it was about a great keeper not getting games because another great keeper was keeping him out of the team.

Aguero could be at Barca this year and not getting starts, would that make him a bad player, would it mean if Barca sold Neymar, Messi or Suarez, Aguero would clearly not be good enough because he wasn't getting starts ahead of them?

I love that you think 3 starts... which shows Reina barely playing which is the crux of the point, somehow makes my comparison incorrect. Unless Reina was actually being picked ahead of Neuer on merit it doesn't actually matter how many games he plays. If you only get games when the first choice is injured or being protected... you're back up, play 5 of those games, or none, you're still back up.

Goodbye Falcao, you can't fault his effort but it just hasn't happened for whatever reason.

No pace, too lightweight and poor service. there were about two glimpses of his ability over all his appearances. He didn't even make very good runs. Diego Forlan was better at United. As you say, can't fault his application but he looked less likely to score than James Wilson so I can't really understand why he played as much as he did. At least he can say he got a fair (ish) crack.

Because when he was at his best in the past he was the best out and out striker in the world. If we could get him back to that sort of level then it would have been worth all the poor games.

With a different side behind him I think he will score goals again but he is not the player he once was and doesn't really suit the way LvG wants to play.

Yeah, Falcao was an outstanding striker in the past, mainly back at Atletico. I remember him against Barca and Chelsea in particular, he just tore those two teams apart. Back then, he had pace and reminded me quite a bit of Aguero. I think his ACL injury and not being suited to the prem have really done for him in his stint at United. He doesn't have that burst of pace to get away from players any more and I don't think he's suited to the physical demands of the prem.
