Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 21st December 2016]

Taken from another sit

Thoroughly depressing. Worst in a long long time and that's some achievement for this team of bottlers. Ozil and Sanchez not doing anything there when we needed our big players. Poor tactics from the line. WC keeper beaten on his near post?

There's so much wrong with this team, it's actually frightening. 1-0 up in last 2 games and losing 2-1?? Ho away AW.

Talk sport dont think he was actually injured. Be interesting if not.

He went down briefly after a tackle I think earlier but it wasn't focused on, he got up but started limping and he indicated he had ot come off, talk sport isn't to be taken seriously.

But he wasn't the issue, we were dire before he came on and nothing changed, he's not good enough to have changed such a game and him going off lost us nothing.

Ozil was dire throughout. Sanchez was working very hard but he also I think picked up a knock, keeping him on... we'll see if that turns into a worse injury. He also was slow getting up from a challenge and was limping around for a while, from that moment on he was running less fast, less freely and less often.

Ozil had no excuse, he was like that from the start but Sanchez was closing well and working very hard to the point he seemed to get hurt. Kos looked knackered from the start, that happens to players with almost no rotation.

Sanchez likes to play every game but that doesn't mean we don't need to protect him with more rotation, considering Perez has shown capable of scoring goals when playing and Giroud has been in good form there is little to no reason to bring him off earlier in some games and either rest him completely or bring him on as a sub in others. Ozil, a player who has always burned out when played too much at Arsenal and didn't burn out when he barely ever played more than 70mins at Real. Just waiting for that injury to take him out for 2+ months when we refuse to rest him either.

On this game, City were dire, negative and had zero energy in the first half, they barely defended and if we were playing properly well we could have gone in with a 3-0 lead easily. Second half City actually decided to put some energy in, way more intensity and way less backwards passing and they tore us apart.

Various websites and journalists all saying this is the game for Arsenal to make a statement about the title, I agree, I just knew what the answer would be. When the pressure is on Arsenal fold.

A month later than the norm but it could be the Arsenal mid season nose dive has arrived.

Lol what a bell Neville looks harping on about an injured player not running

Since his **** sojourn in Valencia and general *** head behaviour recently I've lost interest in Neville. Went from the best pundit in years to another ****** trying to justify himself with OTT comments.

*no thanks*, love it. They are the perennial bottlers... love their fans ups and downs. Fingers crossed they continue this for many years to come. Team full of wannabes.

Now their premier league is all but done with Chelsea storming it, fingers crossed Bayern whip them a new one then we can all smile and wait for the same old thing next year :)

Lost 2 games and the fans are back on harping about sacking Wenger. Classic

Tbf even though I don't care what happens to arsenal I do think wenger has held them back for years now, he has not moved forwards or backwards just got them on repeat. Financially owners won't give a toss but easy to see why there supporters had enough

Gonna be funny when Sanchez buddies up with his old mate Pep at a club that can afford him ;-) his stature can't stay at a middle rank club for too much longer.

If it's 'classic' then it's a common thing making the fans reaction justified in a way.

justified? after 2 games? lost once all season, lost twice and we're back to square 1 again with the fans. Nah...having none of it, new season, there's so much still to play for, it does the team no good having certain fans whip up these murmurs.

I think the opposite, i think he's kept them competitive for years and years

I suppose that depends on how you classify "competitive"

If all a club is aiming for is top 4, and thats what they get year after year then well done - they have done what they set out to do.

Surely however (even while paying off a stadium or whatever) they should aim to improve on "just" staying in the top 4?

They really should be doing a lot better by now.

In the last ten years I think Arsenal are the only club who have qualified for champions league every season? Gone are the days where you could win a Premiership back to back and have it wrapped up by march. Also being out of Europe is a big plus for premiership success just look at Chelsea this season, Leicester last season and Liverpool in the 13/14 campaign and this season. Also considering how relatively little Arsenal have spent compared to the other clubs is a testament to that.

As an Arsenal fan, I don't give a **** about qualifying for the Champions League every year, what's the point? We will NEVER win it with Wenger in charge and it means that for some reason fans are happy with being 2nd to 4th in the league every year.
I don't get it? EVERY season is the same, we play well then we bottle it when something goes wrong. It's a pointless cycle year after year and we achieve nothing from it.
Can't wait until the end of the season when Wenger will go and we get some fresh blood in. He was great for us for the first 6 or 7 years, the last decade has been utterly rubbish!

Wenger's negative tactics against "bigger" teams yet again cost us. Having 10 men in our 3rd for 90% of the game is just so counter productive. City were there for the taking and we sit back and let them come at us again and again. So frustrating, just makes you wonder, if we had a proper world 11 starting line-up would he play the same way? Oh well, my yearly naïve optimism is finished with a bit earlier this time.

Arsenal have won a couple of FA cups as well.

Whats funny is that 4-5 years ago you and others kept moaning how GongHo we were trying to attack against a big side away from home instead of defending ...

Thing is, From Arsenals owners its great is guaranteed money finishing in top 4 every year, From a players perspective you dont win medals for being consistently 2nd 3rd or 4th,

Arsenal players will move on e.g. Sanchez, Ozil eventually like others did. From a supporters point of view its not progress from Wenger if he only does the same thing constantly but then also fails at some point each season.

There in a horrible position fans and owners, if they did sack Wenger when fans called for it and wheels fell out they would moan about struggling in lower positions etc on other hand if they won a trophy instantly people would be i told you so.
