I've said it before, Hernandez is a poacher, he can ONLY appear to play well when those around him are. In real top tier football you need 11 players on the pitch to be capable of doing more than one thing on the pitch. Champs league final, he was non existant, and most big games.
Berbatov might not score as much(even though he did infact outscore him last year) but the team simply play better with him.
Also am I missing something, I was half watching, half doing work on a degree, I saw Young warm up, then never spotted him on the pitch though I kept wondering if he was on the left wing as Utd never went down there and with a small stadium and high camera's you barely saw the left wing for most of the second half, did he hurt himself in warming up or Fergie just went a different, and stupid way?
Utd were/are rubbish, last year Hernandez came on when Utd were established, playing well and dominating, creating chances, thats when he can be useful, especially if you're playing well but can't quite put a finish on the chances, but starting consistently Utd's interplay upfront has disappeared. Not helped by lack of a real talent in central midfield, and when you insist on playing the well well past it Giggs(who will have an exceptional game now and then and useless in between) you can't have someone so incapable of bringing others into the game as Hernandez.
For me its fairly simple, Hernandez isn't a good enough player, just a poacher, he can't and shouldn't start games and you can't get away with that kind of midfield line up. You play the past it Giggs there isn't room for Park and Carrick. You can get away with one or two very very average players, you can't flood the team with them and expect good football.
Arsenal + Denilson OR Song OR Diaby and we could still win games against fairly big teams, put all three in together and Grimsby would give us serious problems.
Utd can cope with any two of Anderson, Carrick, Giggs, park, Fletcher, but put 3, or 4 of them together and the team loses any real quality to compensate for how meh they are.
