Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [19th - 22nd November 2011]

Gilly, Andy, what's all this stuff about Andy O'Brien not wanting to play for your lot? The Beeb doesn't really explain anything.

Was he dropped or something?

I would be so happy never to see carrick in a united shirt ever again. Its embarrassing watching us play at the moment.

Only Ferdinand and Giggs made more forward passes than Carrick today but unlike Ferdinand and Giggs Carricks pass completion was significantly higher (96%)

Haters gonna hate

He did well today, but his finishing was woeful. You should have heard me after he ****ed up that one-on-one. It wasn't pretty.

He seems to be having his very own miss of the season competition.

Finishing aside, he looks a decent player though. Decent build up play but no end product, he's at the right club :p

Wigan got done there. The ref had his back to the incident !!!

Not ser bad

Beyond robbed. What a ridiculous ridiculous decision.

But little wigan!!!

Stonewall penalty as well, ref was shocking.

Easy

Sooner Wigan go down the better.

One of the reasons I love Robinson as a player.

Ha, for what being a inept goalkeeper that got beat 3 times but went up front with seconds to go because he is a ******* Yorkshire fat ****

oi mate concentrate on keeping the ball out of your net!

Surely there has to be something wrong with our coaching team when Swansea look better than us technically. Their energy, movement and passing is just so much better than ours.

To be fair Swansea have 'outpassed' most teams this season, the problem they have is that they create no end product for all their possession. They retain the ball well but don't threaten the goal, I'd be surprised if many teams get more 0-0s than them this season. Even when they played at the Etihad stadium, arguably the toughest fixture in the league, they had 47% possession.

Was still confident of victory today even after going a goal down, we were creating lots of chances and I couldn't see them holding out for 75mins. Another great performance from Vermaelen, if he keeps fit and retains current form he must surely be a candidate for player of the year. Right now I wouldn't swap him for anyone, and that includes Kompany, Vidic or anyone else you care to mention.

Well Grayson in the after match interview was asked why two players didn't play, Pugh and O'Brien, Pugh was injured and O'Brien apparently came to Grayson on Friday and said he didn't want to play today and never for the club again.

All seems bizarre, especially after he played so well against Leicester in our last game.

I then find out that a 'reliable inside' source has commented saying he never said he didn't want to play for Leeds, Grayson said he didn't want O'B playing.

All sound silly tbh. O'Brien isn't a big loss, all our CB's are at a similar level, we just need another sub CB now.

I say next match we stick Jones on the wing instead of Park, he's so much better.

Surely that would actually be the God that is Nani's position (doubt Jones would play on the left) - Nani's crosses were brilliant yesterday......not ONE finding one of his own players, yet another completely invisible game from the Portuguese
(Im not saying many others were any good - in fact most were pretty dreadful).........oohh not to forget the ineptly taken corners right at the end which were a complete waste of time

Yet another matchwinner from Chichariton in the first 20 minutes - yet he isnt meant to be a good starter according to some here......very entertaining that game would have been without him on the field lol (and probably 2 points dropped)

I fully expect the above points to be heavily disputed by a few here, but it will be good for a laugh at least

I think people in general are missing the point of Berbatov, he unlocks defences effortlessly, but as he isn't running around like mad 100% of the time people think he's lazy and rubbish.

He needs to be playing, and playing properly, not the odd sub appearance here and there. Man Utd bought him to play with Rooney, so play them together and tell Rooney to stop playing in central midfield. Then swap in Hernandez depending on how the game is going.

I suppose this isn't helped by our lack of a decent/fit creative midfielder.

And what about when Rooney is out/rested, then you have a striker (Berba) who cant play with anyone else (who only scored in one in 5 matches when WR was out last season) and a 2nd striker who is used to coming off the bench pplaying fresh against tired defences - a sure fire way of not scoring any goals at all.

At least this way, we have a young striker (scoring matchwinners early into the bargain) getting more and more ingrained in the team and getting productive with it. Its a bit harsh blaming Chicharito for yesterday when Rooney was playing more as a 5th midfielder yesterday, so that made Chicharito's role a lot more difficult (and not one he is really adept at yet).

There were a lot of things wrong with yesterday (not least Fletcher coming on without a change on the left wing as well) but I can only see giving Chicharito starts as a benefit to the team in the long run (rather than an older striker who isnt exactly consistant or prolific most of the time, who usually slows the play down considerably, who isnt likely to be at Utd for more than 18 months anyway, and possibly only 6 months)

As I mentioned earlier, who was he meant to be crossing to? 90% of the time it was only Hernandez in the box. If we want to be a side that concentrates on crosses then you need more men in the box , Hernandez isn't going to win **** by himself.

As I also mentioned earlier, at one point Nani picked up the ball and no one moved at all. Giggs and Carrick were absolutely stationary in deep midfield, Neither Rooney or Hernandez made a run, what exactly is Nani meant to do?

I don't think you can say any one player played worse than the rest. Our general play, movement and attitude is just completely absent.

Even Fergie doesn't seem bothered, he didn't even try to change things with subs until the predictable 'stick another man in the middle and hope things bounce off them'

So we face Chelsea soon really dont know what to expect, If i go by our last few games of mehness i fear the worst.

We have all ready become too reliant on Suarez looks like he should play today no doubt if his back injury has healed up,We just need a run of games were we least finish the chances we make would help boost peoples morale a tad too.

Hope for a 2-1 win

We never seem to have a problem performing against the 'larger' teams, pretty much ever in the PL era tbh.
Our problem post the train wreck that was Souness has been smaller clubs.

I know we never usualy have a problem with the bigger teams but i still usualy worry about it regardless.

I know e.g. like you say we could beat UTD then go to Swanswea and become useless :(

Is this going to be a regular thing with you now? Nani has a bad game and Frank is straight to the forums? There were by far worse players than Nani yesterday not least at times Rooney who at least twice failed to keep an attacking move going by passing it out wide to Nani instead choosing to shoot from 40 yards. Granted Nani didn't have the best game when he was in possession but Giggs and probably Park were far far worse (as was Vidic with some of his passing)

I'll assume the Hernandez comment was solely aimed at DM so I won't comment on that part

I think you could do well against Chelsea today, maybe not beyond a score draw, but raise your game. Very odd working out what Chelsea are doing at the moment as they're still transitioning, but high defensive line + Terry + Suarez could be quite funny.

fergie hails defensive improvement afterb6 clean sheets...

now was it just me or did we look awful at the back? they could and should have scored one and 6 corners to 1 is not ideal.

We've been worse recently, we were better against Everton at the back though. There were a couple of sloppy mistakes from both Ferdinand and Vidic.

A few rumours going around that Suarez may not be starting today; he missed Uruguay's midweek international with a slight injury so they might be true. We'll find out for certain in the next 10 minutes though.

Rumours say:
Reina, Kelly, Carra, Agger, Enrique, Kuyt, Lucas, Adam, Downing, Bellamy, Carroll

Which i don't like the look of at all :(
