Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [19th - 26th December 2014]

I suppose what I'm getting is that you haven't much to lose this season, top 4 looks beyond you now and 18 games in and you are still looking for a top, top performance that matched last season. You have nothing much to lose so maybe opt for the promising kids, like Ibe.

Also. what happened to Flanagan?

I'm not sure top 4 is beyond us. We're only 5 points behind Arsenal who realistically will be our main rival there and they've hardly impressed. Agree re our performances but that's slowly improving and when Sturridge is back I'm sure we'll look a far better side.

Had the season been a write off then maybe I'd agree but it's not and Ibe just won't play now. It's not like we'd be picking players that are past their use by date ahead of him either - Coutinho, Sterling, Markovic and Lallana will be key players for us for years to come.

Flanagan's been injured. He's just started training again but it'll be a couple more weeks before he's fully fit. Not that I think he'd play anyway.

Is Kane actually any good? Whenever I've seen him he's worked hard and he's scored his fair share of goals (albeit most in the League Cup and Europa) but technically he looks bang average.

I also have this opinion of him, it kind of started from when he was at Leicester and Norwich where he looked god awful, I still don't understand how he's scored as many as he has as he does look very technically limited. Still, I guess hard work in a game and being in the right place at the right time does wonders...look at Alan Smith!

Can whoever questioned whether Sterling had a left foot earlier in the season also question his right foot please.

Edit: Lol Mason at it again. Blatant red for last man.

Edit: All the refs are drunk. Another blatant penalty for Villa after the push from Williams.

his touch is better than his finishing ability atm he hasn't scored as many as he should. he's missed 5 'sitters' so far this season but his attitude is great and he's progressing rapidly. i think he could go on and become very important for us. he does have everything an english striker needs, good with both feet, good in the air, strong, good touch, no fear.

he's not going to dribble the ball in the box around a back 4 like a smaller player could but he certainly finds the net in other ways. really pleased for him as he's just kept plying away to get his chance.

Ok.
Has he got a right foot? :p

Ivanovic was in the air before contact was made yet it's not a dive according to Neville :o

How on earth is this clown allowed to view his opinions in public?

That was indeed a dive by Ivanovic, it's ridiculous to say otherwise.
What gets me though is why no-one (including Wham fans) has commented on the simply outrageous one earlier by Valencia and I think the only reason Oliver didn't book Ivanovic was that he couldn't really after letting Valencia get away with one.

Did you watch the game live?
In the first half, down in the North West corner which was diagonally opposite the WHU fans.
JM said this -
The only guy who dived was [West Ham’s Enner] Valencia and that was not in the box, and no one reacted negatively
Perhaps as he wasn't trying to blag a penalty no-one cares about it, it was still ridiculous though.

Rather ridiculous that only injury forced Wenger's hand into playing Rosicky, and Rosicky provided a range of passing and attacking play that Ramsey, Ozil, Cazorla, Welbeck and most of the rest haven't managed all year.

One of the better players on the bench because other players couldn't play, not through choice, one of the fundamental reasons Arsenal don't win titles and don't compete. Ox has been dire this season capped off by a truly terrible performance before the QPR game. Rosicky may have been injured briefly but has been available a lot and on the bench a fair amount and simply not used while other players have put in dire performance after dire performance.

Giroud being out will probably lead to Wenger being forced to play Podolski wide with Welbeck upfront, though Podolski playing ahead of Welbeck is again something that should be happening as standard, or giving Campbell a try. So bored with Wenger, same retarded crap year after year. How many managers refuse to use a player who is SO clearly better and more capable than some of the players Wenger insists on using.

Are Everton in danger of going down?
They have been poor this season and I cannot see where their next win is coming from... lots of possession but no end product! Last season they were making and taking chances

No I don't think we are in danger of going down despite his best efforts to turn us into Wigan. Despite all the plaudits about being a manager in waiting for a big Spanish club I think after inheriting a solid unit he's showing his limitations this year in kicking on or even playing consistent football.

We are not alone in being terrible this year of course. He deserves another season but I don't think it should be with a a huge amount of money. I don't think he could sort a defense out if he had the Arsenal back 4 from the invincibles.

Yeah I watched it live but honstly nevre saw that. Will watch it again. To be honest he isn't normally a diver and would get hell from ou own fans if he did. Ask Matty Etherington. Tomkins got a coating as well after that face holding crap.

Front 4 of Chelsea are superb, but this diving is beginning to get stupid, and it seems the be the defenders that do it the most ! Hazard I understand sometimes as he gets the crap kicked out of him, wrong, but understandable to a point, but Ivanovic should have been booked for that and the amount of fouls he did. Collins got booked for a fair tackle !

It didn't affect the result but the ref was utterly useless.
