Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [19th - 26th December 2014]

Keown is a horribly biased commentator. It is really unpleasant listening to him watching an arsenal match.

Lol. Ref did not know who kranjcar was after he booked him he was like turn around, I need to see your name and number. Lol

Finally we win.

Ibe scored another good goal for Derby. Liverpool should recall him (if he isn't coming back in January anyway) and give him some game time. Could be another Sterling in the making.

He is very good.

What happened to will hughes?... Everyone went on about him, and when I have seen him he has looked good, but he only seems to be on the bench when I see Derby nowadays.

Lescott's having a right mare in these highlights :D

Edit: Watching players like Silva and Aguero make me think how different things could've been for us if Benitez had a board that backed him :(

Not sure, players worked him out I guess, can't seem to pull the strings like he did when he first came on the scene.

He's got the pace and trickery (and arguably he's a better ball striker) of Sterling but I'm not sure he's got the game intelligence yet. That's something Sterling does have; his movement, decision making and the way he uses his body is so impressive for a player his age. You see so many players with all the raw materials, often young tricky wingers, that don't know how to use their ability and the game often passes them by. With Sterling, Markovic, Coutinho and Lallana we can afford to give Ibe a full season out on loan playing games and learning his trade, which is what he needs.

On Hughes, he was heavily linked with Liverpool from last summer and there seemed to be some substance to those stories too (with some reports claiming that a deal had been agreed for this summer) but everything went quiet this summer. I've no idea how much that's to do with Hughes lack of development or our targets changing due to making the CL.

He's still only 19 and see what I said about Ibe. Give a young talented player time and space to play and he'll look good. It's much harder when they're marked men though and they almost need to learn again how to play. There was a noticeable lull in Sterling's game; he broke into the side and looked great but then for almost 12 months there was a big dip in his game and it was only November/December last year that he kicked on again.

I agree, but when Sterling first came into the first team he was just pace and tricks, he didn't need to go out on loan to get the traits you listed. Ibe should be given the chance in a team that has Henderson playing at LM....

See my edit and the quote replying to your Hughes post. From December 2013 until November 2014 Sterling regressed quite noticeably. Defenders worked him out and he was no longer influencing games like he initially was. It was only the 2nd half of last season that he really went onto the next level.

And Henderson's playing right wingback, not left mid.

I've seen it, and yeah he did take a backwards step hence why it was so strange how good he got last season. Still, Ibe could do that ;)

I'm sure I've seen Henderson LM or RM this season!

Also Markovic is pretty much the same age as Ibe? Send him on loan :p

Maybe Ibe could do that but it's highly unlikely that he's going to get to Sterling's level or even close to that this season. Let him learn and make his mistakes at Derby and hopefully we'll get the start of the best of him next season. Right now he won't get the chance to learn with us because he wouldn't get the games. There's no chance he'd play ahead of Sterling, Coutinho, Lallana or Markovic.

Markovic is a year older and 70 odd senior games more experienced.

And Henderson's played the odd game on the right hand side of midfield but he's not played as a winger. Whenever he's played there he's played very narrow. Right now Ibe is very much an out and out winger, you couldn't rely on him to do his defensive work or play him as a wing back like Markovic and Sterling have done.

I suppose what I'm getting is that you haven't much to lose this season, top 4 looks beyond you now and 18 games in and you are still looking for a top, top performance that matched last season. You have nothing much to lose so maybe opt for the promising kids, like Ibe.

Also. what happened to Flanagan?
