Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1st - 4th December 2017]

Scholes wasn't really a ball carrier but could pick great passes. Le Tissier possibly but a difficult case as Southampton just didn't win anything.

10 is difficult to classify, if you play there and score too many are a you discounted? Are we judging creative as more assists than goals?

Silva doesn't really play as a number 10, certainly not in the last few years anyway so the exact role isn't too important but I think to make a fair comparison they've got to at least be midfielders rather than forwards.

The current crop of players that most people would compare him with all play or have played more often in much more attacking roles than Silva plays.

It's really difficult without knowing exactly what Carra and Henry mean by creative midfielder. For me Hazard is a wide forward, not a midfielder.

Silva is a very clever footballer who has always been consistent for City, but I don't think he's ever scored or directly assisted enough goals to be considered one of the greatest, regardless of whether you're talking about midfielders, attacking midfielders, number tens, etc.

Iniesta didn't score or directly assist huge amounts of goals either, I don't think many people would argue against him being called one of the best creative midfielders of the last 20 years. Sometimes it's not the last pass that's the creative or most important pass in the build up to a goal. Silva, like Iniesta, is the player that plays the clever through ball to the overlapping winger who then plays the fairly simple cut back or square pass that gives the striker a tap in.

Take Silva's goal tonight as an example - if he knocks that back across goal for a tap in rather than score himself, does that devalue the contribution of KDB's pass for that goal?

I see what you mean, but on the other hand the Sky Sports La Liga pundits have said in the past that if there is one criticism of Iniesta it's that he hasn't scored enough goals for a player of his ability levels, so the same criticism could apply to Silva. Take Mata as another example, he's a very good footballer but as a United fan I wish he possessed a bit more of a goal threat, and he's similar in a lot of respects to Silva. De Bruyne is such a dangerous footballer because he can pick out a 50 yard pass, whip in a beautiful cross, and score a belter from 25 yards. Silva doesn't have that range of passing or the ability to consistently trouble a keeper from outside the box, so for me he's not quite up there with the very best of all time in the PL.

Mata is about half the player Silva is. Silva very rarely loses the ball, is brilliant under pressure and pretty much always contributes massively to City. Mata goes missing a lot, is far too one footed, is easily dispossessed and very rarely gets out of a tight situation or ghosts past a man. I love Mata but he is not in the same league as Silva.

So Utd aren't appealing Pogba's red card. Given his importance to the side and the importance of the game(s) he's going to miss, you'd have thought even if there was just a 1% doubt over the decision Utd would have appealed.

Lets hope he can keep it up till we get 120 mill in January. :p

Or he is fully rested for the Xmas onslaught and no risk of the ban being extended to even more games

On top of that there is "only" one game he misses that is absolutely vital - and while it matters the most to the fans its still only worth the same 3 points
The decision might have been different if the league was even closer

Of course, I didn't think of that. Utd are happy for him to be wrongfully suspended so that they can rest him for the festive period.

I'm not. They were never going to appeal because they knew they risked an extended ban because it could have easily been considered frivolous.
