Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [20 - 26th December 2013]

Top of the ******** league, for now. We can dream can't we?

Cardiff completes Suarez's set of the bottom 7 scored against. Seriously though I didn't expect Cardiff who have scored 4 away all season, to be a threat. City and Chelsea another thing though, I had completely forgotten Aguero was injured, it's not like Negredo hasn't been awesome nor that isn't good(I think he's highly under rated), but no Aguero is a huge bonus for you guys in that game.

I'd be surprised if Arsenal beat Chelsea so I think you'll be top over xmas, but probably not going into the new year. If you were home against City, I'd put you as favourites to be top starting 2014, but away, I still favour City.

Lack of europa league is a bonus this year. Only having to focus on the league this year is leaving the players fresh without those pointless midweek european travels

Suarez FC at top of the table for now.

Gerrard shouldn't be played against the top clubs, only against the lower table clubs. They're actually keeping clean sheets more often now.

Of all the three Henderson has now become undroppable. Another 2 assists today and basically set up the second with the quick long ball to Suarez. His level has rocketed now he's getting more time on the ball.

Very much so, did you go out of the CC cup early?

Seriously people forget how much difference the lack of games, lack of injuries, more time training and more time for the manager to watch game tape and adapt tactics to the next game with 7-8 games less.

Look at Newcastle, first year, no europe, not much in other cups, 5th in the league awesome year. Next year, europe, injuries, tiredness, relegation scrap. This year, no europe, completely different season again. Newcastle fans were shocked by this, I said it before last season started, it happens to most teams. Only Liverpool upwards and 100mil + squads can just about cope with that kind of extra number of games. Spurs only dropped a place but had about a 10% lower win rate in the league the year they were in the champs league and did significantly better in the Europa years when Redknapp basically ignored the competition sending out kids more often than not.

I think for smaller squads it can easily cost 12+ points, for bigger squads, it's probably going to cost them a couple of wins at least in the league.

It's the kind of situation where frankly if you are top of the league when the first FA cup game comes around, you should put out a youth team and nothing else, just checked, Oldham 5th jan. If you're top into 2014, I'd screw off that game completely with youth players and anyone who needs game time/coming back from injury maybe(gerrard back by then?) if you get through and depending on where you are for the next round again, do the same.
