Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 24th Jan 2012]

If this is bad, imagine next season when there's no RVP. Think the Thursday night club awaits, if we're lucky.

Even that is going to be a minor miracle....

The thing is, the board will probably be perfectly fine finishing outside of the top four. We seem to have no ambition whatsoever.

Yep, to them i guess making more money while putting up ticket prices and making us uncompetitive seems to be the order of the day to the board.

Sad state of affairs that we find ourselves in, the best the fans can do is to vote with their wallets and not go to any games...perhaps then the board will get it into their thick skulls that we need to be doing more by signing some consistent and decent players and not keeping the current crop of **** we have at the moment.

As for Arshavin, hes been absolute rubbish for some time now and i think we would be doing him a massive favour sellling him because he just doesnt seem all that interested in playing for us anymore....shame really.

Anybody notice evra's play acting? Thought not, he is a saint after all - makes me sick, im glad he got a yellow because he is a scumbag, suarez incident or not. MOTM? why?

United deserved the win, Valencia really impressed me, was a constant threat and a great header. Why he did not get MOTM is beyond me.

Two horse race, arsenal and liverpool can wave 4th goodbye, i think chelsea will snatch 4th at the end of the season.

Take off your rose tinted red glasse off for once. the idiot called ashavin cost u the 2nd goal due to his rubbish defending. got beaten soo bloody easily on the left. pathetic

Got beaten so easily that he was between Valencia and the goal when Valencia passed it across? Take off your "standard Arsenal opinion" glasses and realise that when 5-6 Arsenal players all stand off every Utd player IN THEIR OWN BOX, MARK NO ONE AND WATCH THE BALL...... that it is THEIR FAULT.

Arshavin isn't a defender yet worked hard to get back, people lose the ball, people get beaten, Vermaelen's positioning was horrible, Mertesacker was watching the ball not the player, Song was no where near marking anyone as per usual, can't remember where everyone else was.

The defenders needed to defend in the box, none of them did anything they should have, to put the blame on Arshavin is beyond ridiculous, if you think he was the most to blame, you don't understand defending.

I'm too young to remember the Arsenal of pre-Graham years that were just average, I started supporting them just prior to Wenger joining so up until 5-6 years ago it wasn't too depressing, we usually were good value to have a chance at winning something.

It seems like I'm going to have to go through the reverse of Man City fans; watch a great team degenerate into a very average one, mocked by the neighbours, and given the state of money in football, I doubt we'll get back up again unless Stan's wife becomes a huge fan and starts throwing billions at the team.

even wenger made a "hint" that it was asahvins fault for the 2nd goal. if even our manager thinks ashavin is at fault, it make u look a bit stupid backing Ashavin

Arshavin did in NO WAY cost us the goal, look at his position and why Valencia didn't shoot, why, because ARshavin tracked him the whole way and when he got the ball back he was between Valencia and the goal.

Mertesacker you can see ignores everyone around him when Valencia gets the ball and moves AWAY from Welbeck, Verm and Koscielny both got drawn to the same player and Verm really wasn't anywhere near left back or where he should have been.

Arshavin did as much as he could, the 6 or so other Arsenal players in the box all failed to mark a single Utd player in the box...... put the blame where it was deserved.

As for ARsenal, not like they are predictable.

Song gets away with murder, again and again and again.... check.

Wenger takes off the best player for the most out of form player we have(who is available)..... check.

Wenger leaves on the worst player on the pitch who barely put a foot right the entire game(Theo, Song, Djourou, Rosicky did nothing useful)... check.

Welbeck though, lol, he did a great Walcott impression, first time through on goal, underhit it, second time, terrible touch, went wide, fluked ending up with the ball(just like THeo most of the time he ends up somewhere dangerous) and shoots selfishly from a terrible angle rather than pass to Nani or Rooney who both had a great angle and an open goal.

Third and last time, through on goal, slows down, can't decide what to do.... fall over on the ball........ that was one of the best impressions of Walcott I've seen to date.

Rooney was hilarious in that, throughout the game I kept thinking, has he done anything except get fouled by Arsenal? The ref after ignoring a cynical foul(the type he gave Ramsey a yellow for and could clearly be saying "I have no choice" for that type for foul), and another foul, he did the bad foul, got a talking to and we saw the ref say "1 more than a yellow", to which he did about 4-5 more fouls, some punished, some not.

We don't need to spend billions. Sorry but there are DOZENS of players Arsenal can easily afford for 60k a week, we have, Theo.

Arsenal spend and spend big on wages, the league this year is SO average in general, Chelsea are "meh" no where near a top team and sitting 5 points clear in 4th, after dropping more points this weekend. City are spending like madmen, and have some very decent quality to show for it, and a lot of waste on players who aren't even there. Of the half a billion a lot of those players have left, some are on loan, and one, the one on the most wages is all but banned from playing for them.

Arsenal can with spending almost zero money improve the team dramatically, and with the quality in the league above us, top 4 would be EASY on the current Arsenal budget, really easy. Throw in a real shirt deal in a few years and the money we could save simply getting rid of crap players who never play(diaby, Chamakh, etc) we can spend LESS while having a better team than we do now.

How good/bad we are is down to Wenger, NOTHING to do with lack of funds.

Wow so it seems like a missed a good weekend :( Did we play well?

Nope, very much a 'did just enough' performance. No idea why Hernandez didn't come on when the game opened up, he must not be fit enough and be put on the bench as a novelty as the game was perfect for him for the last 30 minutes.

As a Spud absolutely gutted, 2-0 down, would have rather have lost 4-0 than lost 3-2 like we did, especially when the player who won and scored the pen should have not even of been on the pitch. At the end of the day that’s football you win some and you lose some, **** happens, but instead of 2 points behind (if defoe socred) we are 8 behind thats life.

Please fully star out all swearing in future. Thank you.

No, you really do speak out of your behind, you can't have it both ways.

A few posts ago you say Wenger has lost the plot COMPLETELY, a couple days ago you got back on the "Wenger has to be fired" bandwagon, you complain(maybe you, if not then EVERYONE else did) that Ox should never have been taken off........ but on this one point you're going to agree.

YOu were right before, Wenger has lost the plot, Wenger has liked scapegoating players he doesn't like for 5+ years, Arshavin is that player right now, doing badly, making mistakes, know you're going to lose, take off your best player, put on the guy you hate and blame him....

Sorry but our right winger who put in a HUGE amount of effort, more than Theo on the wing did once all night, and did well, the 5 defenders who were all in the box, all ignoring the Utd players, and were back and set before Valencia got there........... aren't to blame?

Had Hernandez came on then the eventual match winner wouldn't of been on the pitch

Where did is ay i wanted wenger out a few days ago? all i said was that if wenger dont get us in the top 4, then maybe its time for him to go.

Also, diddnt you watch wengers post match comments. the presenter asked "is ashavin to blame for the goal" Wenger answered with a angered face "go and ask him"

Most managers defending there players would say something like "well we are a team and its unfair to blame just one player" but he diddnt.

HE ALSO blatenly said that we lost due to a "tactical" error. more clues and hints that wenger is blaming ashavin.

Your a fool if still backing Ashavin when even wenger is clearly upset with ashavin
