Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 26th March 2014]

United were clearly unlucky tonight, rooney clearly needs another pay rise

They'll also be better without having to play that crap player RVP and play Rooney/Mata where they are best.

I really really can't stand this last 1-2 week mentality in football from the press in particular but from loads of fans. Utd lose to everything between decent and great teams, but beat Olympicrapos and West Ham and people start reacting like they've made a big change, have moved forward..... no, you just played a couple of **** teams.

Basically that they lost their identity and don't know what direction they're going in.

Don't blame them in the slightest, I'd be wondering what the hell the man was smoking when he comes in and immediately says, we have to stop them instead of how do we beat them. Completely goes against the grain of top players to be mentally considering themselves 2nd class.

City and Chelsea's biggest weakness in their teams were lack of true quality in defensive midfield, a huge problem in English football in general. Both went out and bought footballers for the position.

They both remind me more of good old Gilberto. Ferandinho looks good going forward, is just a good all around player but solid in controlling midfield. Matic slightly less good going forward but he doesn't look poor when he does it. His movement and defensive work is brilliant.

Why certain managers can't just look at the squad and pick the position that can improve the team the most and go out and make that change I don't know.

We bought Ozil, completely not needed, and ignored the key positions that mattered. Utd have done the same.

Tbh, it might have been said before by some fans but united finishing out of a european spot altogether might be the better option for them. Like Liverpool this year, they can just focus on the PL then.

I think we'll be better off without the Europa League, though we do have the option of playing some of the reserves/younger players there.

Yeah I agree. West Ham were dreadful, though we did ok for the most part, but nothing brilliant.

We were fortunate to beat Olympiakos as well, they missed great chances, conceded a foolish penalty, dreadful goalkeeping from the free kick too.

To be fair it was only Moyes who was clutching at this straw^^^

Yeah, the first team squad will have definitely taken note of what Liverpool are doing this year. No doubt they don't give a monkey's for the PL now, it's the CL or nothing.

Great result, Moyes out :)

Sadly 3-0 isnt bad enough. Moyes will probably count that as a win and pat himself on the back.

My only hope is that Bayern beat us by 10 goals, in 2 legs.
Only when we really get humiliated, the directors will come to their senses.

A few days ago, B.Charlton was saying that Moyes is the right man for the job.

I'm wondering if I am watching different games to what the board of directors are watching.

Even if the Glazers hired an intern for a week, who knows nothing about football and asked them to create a list of top 15 soccer managers in the World, using only the internet, they would've reached the conclusion that Moyes is not a top manager.

I feel that the Glazers have to step in now as Charlton and Fergie will stand by Moyes, even if Man Utd went into a relegation battle.

And as Drunkenmaster stated earlier, we never turned a corner. It just so happened that we played some poor teams, so won those 2 games. The moment we play a decent team, we lose.

I stated very early on in the season that we have no chance of finishing in the top 4, as Moyes cannot tactically compete with Mourinho, Pelligrini, Wenger, Martinez or Rodgers. I see no need to change my mind.

IMO, Moyes must be ousted in the Summer and the only way this will happen is if we get humiliated. The worst mistake would be to give Moyes £150M to spend on players.

I'd held off voting in the league winners poll until tonight. I know Utd are terrible but City looked a class above tonight and even without Aguero, I can't see them dropping enough points. The only possible saving grace is they can forget to show up in the smaller games.

Not only did the ref blow up when Swansea were running through on goal but he done so before the allotted time was up too? Somebody felt sorry for Arsene.

Manchester United manager David Moyes speaking to Sky Sports: "We didn't start the game well. They were very good but we grew into the game and up into the second goal we had a fighting chance. But we weren't good enough in the end.

"My first feeling was that Marouane Fellaini's yellow card of a foul on Pablo Zabaleta wasn't even a free-kick, but I genuinely haven't seen it again and people have said to me that it was worse than that.

"I think we have played a very good side, playing at the sort of level we are aspiring to. We need to come up a couple of levels ourselves because at the moment we are not there."

What's he complaining about Fellaini's booking for?!

If he genuinely hasn't seen it again, it's possible that he didn't have a great view of it from the other side of the pitch tbf to him.

Just seen the elbow. Again the ref is close to the action and gets it wrong. Red all day long except today.

He got away with the exact same thing at Anfield last season when he elbowed Gerrard right in front of the ref. That day he also got away with 2 elbows on Agger and an elbow on Skrtel too iirc.

180 minutes against Bayern is going to be fun for United, expecting a 10+ aggregate score in favour of the Germans.

United will be lucky to see 10% of the ball, it's going to be one of the most one sided games I'll ever get see.
