Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 27th April 2017]

Can't believe there are people sticking up for Fellaini, yes Aguero got in his face but Fellaini clearly moved his head down and headbutted Aguero. He's an absolute moron and the phrase 'not fit to wear the shirt' was made for players like him. All he does is offer some height and sticks his elbows out, may as well have Crouch in the squad too.

Embarrassing performance lucky to escape with a point. The gulf in class was huge Last night.

Clearly carrick and Fellaini cannot cut it unless they are playing lower level opposition.

I guess that depends if you're in a playground or not. Christ, Fellaini is a grown man, he clearly head butted Aguero and using the whole "Well he started" it nonsense argument is ridiculous.

Yea, sure Aguero should have been booked for being annoyed that a thug had taken him out twice in quick succession...

The fact that aguero shouldnt be there to start with obviously has nothing to do with it , he is only there to get Fellaini sent off and therefor deserves a yellow just as much as Fellaini deserved the red (which I said last night and have never said otherwise)

It has everything to do with it, one is aggressive, one is defensive, give a 2nd yellow to Fell, fine, but Aguero should'nt be rewarded for that behaviour. Us fans need to do more to label playacting as unacceptable.

He isn't there to get Fellaini sent off, he doesn't control what that moron does, only he does that. Aguero is the one that was fouled and then was head butted, the idea that he is partly to blame for someone being a mindless thug is ridiculous.

So he went down easily, the end result is exactly the same and the correct decision was made. What exactly is Aguero getting booked for in that instance ? Confronting someone who chopped him down ?

Give over.

Have you seen it again? how anyone can think Aguero is blameless is beyond me

Personally, I see very little difference between this and a player inviting a challenge to gain a penalty. Or players who say things to other players all game to wind them up and distract. Mind games are a part of the sport.

Players should understand the sport and operate within it. Look at Costa, he's a lunatic, but cleverly balances himself to avoid red cards, he's only had 3 since 2013 and moving to Atletico Madrid.

I think you'd be annoyed if you were taken down twice in less than 30s by the same player. Fellaini had lost it the second he ran after Aguero after getting his first card. It was likely he was going to get a yellow for that alone.

Such rubbish excuses, just because you don't like Felliani doesn't mean you should excuse Aguero's behaviour. It's ridiculous.

What exactly did Aguero do? Looked to me like he just confronted Fellaini up close?

Hardly anything to get upset about, certainly didn't warrant Fellaini sticking his noggin on him. Blatant red card and deservedly so.

Aguero going down like he'd been shot was absolutely embarrassing but not at all surprising given this is modern football.

I just absolutely hate your point of view.

Aguero walked into Fellaini and was jointly responsible for initiating contact of heads. You saying that it's a good part of the game to do this, and then to go down like a sack of **** under what is not actually a headbutt, is disgusting. **** that.

Players square up to each other all the time, we can't go booking people just for squaring up to another player. Yes, Aguero has gone down very easily, but Fellaini has still headbutted him. We shouldn't defend Fellaini here, the guy is a moron and the sooner Mourinho gets rid of him the better, I absolutely hate him.

On a different subject, for all those who constantly bash Mourinho and United there's an interesting article on Fivethirtyeight on how United are unlucky not to be higher in the league and statistically are a lot better than people give them credit for:

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/manchester-united-is-too-unlucky-to-be-great/

Also, if United avoid defeat to Swansea it will be a new club record undefeated run. Say all you want about the football we play, but that is still very impressive. I think we're absolutely on the right track with Mourinho and with the right transfers I think we'll challenge for the title next year.

literally gobsmacked you can't see the playacting/cheating.

They squared up because Fellaini fouled him for the second time in a row, Fellaini headbutted him, Aguero made the most of it. Everyone can see Fellaini lost control as soon as he got that yellow.

Never seen a bigger load of nonsense, unlucky? They've had a few offside goals given this season for a start. Jose accuses teams of going to Old Trafford to play for a draw and then does the exact same against their biggest rivals. 1 shot on target is not unlucky.

I even said myself Aguero going down was embarrassing, but to try and spin it that it's anything more than Fellaini being a moron is what's gobsmacking.

I'm glad they're not higher up, that brand of anti football is rightly panned when it's someone like Pulis or Allardyce doing it, but when it's Mourinho it's supposedly tactical genius. There's no tactical genius in getting 11 behind the ball and trying to win a point. It's boring, it's toss, and i'd rather not watch it.

Don't get me wrong there's a time and a place for it, teams struggling for survival etc but this is supposed to be Man United. Long gone are the days when they'd fancy themselves against anyone, or at least it would appear.

There's a time and a place for counter-attacking football though, United just weren't able to hit City on the break like they wanted to. There's no way United would have gone there and beaten them if they'd tried to match City in terms of playing style, that would have been suicidal, particularly with a midfield three of Herrera, Carrick and Fellaini. United used to play smash and grab football under SAF at times as well, this isn't something new. The 1-0 win at Anfield thanks to a last-minute O'Shea goal springs to mind as a perfect example of that.

JanesyB, did you actually read the article?

They didn't play smash and grab football though, they played stick 11 men behind the ball and hope for the best. They had something like 7 touches in City's area in the entire game.

In the second half they showed zero intent on getting forward, zero intent to counter attack, zero intent to try and win the game. It wasn't much better in the first half.

The second half was woeful, I'll agree on that one. In the first half they were trying their best to counter-attack but they couldn't shift the ball from midfield to attack fast enough. As Gary Neville said in the studio after, they missed Pogba. For all the grief he's got this season (sometimes rightly so), he's good at transitioning the ball from back to front quickly when playing counter-attacking, and Carrick, Herrera and Fellaini were just too slow getting the ball out to the likes of Martial and Rashford. Plus as someone said here, the City defenders and DMs are experts at small fouls to stop teams breaking on them.
