Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [22 - 26th December 2012]

It's becoming more and more clear just how bad the EPL is getting, I think both with Chelsea chosing the wrong managers constantly and buying the wrong players, Utd and Arsenal sticking with managers who with monunmental budgets and spending keep buying the wrong players, keeping the wrong players and show a complete lack of being able to cut the dead meat from the squad. Spurs are doing pretty well on an actually limited budget, pushing for top 4 while on a budget basically 50+ mil lower than the nearest team above them is really very good, as is what Everton are achieving(but without Europe to contend with).

I think City are the only team that have improved in the big 5 teams across the last 5 years(pool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Utd, City have all spent well over £100mil in wages at various points), but considering what they've spent and how they are playing, they've still spent very very poorly.

Utd should not be able to play like they have been and be top of the league, its embarrassing for everyone else in the league.

Nope, tactically inept, completely incompetant in Europe, spending money on all the wrong players, his ridiculous attention deflecting Tevez situation last year, a player who was crucial to winning the title at the end and crucial this year who he still drops and seems to be trying to make into a not crucial player, and costing himself points.

He should never have gotten the job frankly, having shown only the ability to win the Italian league when the rest of the competition was relegated/deducted points for cheating and incompetance in Europe.

If it's so easy, I assume you're going to become a Manager yourself?

Good argument.......

People who are professional football managers can ONLY make better decisions than other people who aren't managers, because everyone has identical opportunities in life, no really, its true, I failed to become a football manager because I was terrible at it, not because I didn't try to become one, or because I never had the same opportunity.

Likewise, I also claimed that I would be a great manager.... didn't I... somewhere... no wait, I didn't.

There isn't a man on earth(aside from Fergie) who thought starting Giggs was a good idea, is Fergie right because he did become a manager, or was he wrong to start Giggs?

Ah, so you're one of those people who are never wrong. Merry Christmas :)

Valencia seems to be in an awful patch of form at the moment. With Nani frozen out and Giggs just past it we are going to need some cover on the wing soon!

Was the Valencia tackle malicious or just bad timing? Heard he's probably broke Anita's foot near the end.

It was wet he slid in from some distance away and caught the guy's ankles. His studs were down. Cisse made two similar challenges (first half one on Evra which went unpunished) but this being Manchester United everyone will focus on Valencia's!

No shame in lossing like. Well proud what a maych :p

Bit of both. He went to foul the man to stop a counter attack. should have been a redcard. or defo a yellow which meant he would have been off anyways

Really hope it's not bad but he was caught clean on the ankle with studs

Typical spurs, no creativity. AV go up the other end for the first time in 30mins and look more dangerous.

We don't seem to know how to break a team down to score. We get to the final third and sort of stopand wonder
Edit- you can see why Chelsea scored 8, villa are giving us so much space. Chelsea went for the jugular we are a little bit lost.

I didn't think it was malicious at all. The ball we there to be won, he was simply slightly off target. If you look where the ball is when he slides in, he could easily have taken the ball had he hit the right trajectory.

Looking at it in the slow motion replay, you can see how it has done the damage but it didn't look like it was intentional at all to me. I may be biased but I would like to think not...
