Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [22nd - 26th April 2016]

The betting markets for the Spurs vs West Brom game are... odd.

Kane is unsurprisingly favourite to score first at 13/5 but then the next 11 players are all Spurs. Clinton N'Jie - who hasn't played for Spurs this year - is 9/2. Harry Winks - who has never played for Spurs in the Premier League ever - is 10/1.

West Brom's first appearance is Saido Berahino at 14/1.

its true. all leicster fans will be quiet next season

Not really, they will be referred to as the "champions" for the entire season...

Whatever happens next season Leicester have nothing to be ashamed of, unlike Chelsea, United, City etc. who have spent hundreds of millions over the last few seasons.

football wise its great for a small club to win the PL but I really cant get behind Leicester after how they have gotten there ( dodgy insolvency / phoenix companies ) and knowing several people that had their companies bankrupted by shady practices :(

Strictly speaking about the first part and football, it's astonishing and completely throws the rule book out of what you need to win these days. You can't just blame it on money or to the same degree just throw money at something and expect it to accomplish. There is no excuse for lazy managers/players/chairmans etc to blame it on financial shackles!
Leicester a team that costs probably peanuts with a matching wage structure, with a late blooming striker found in the lower leagues. And now a player that cost $500k winning the PFA award, going on to hopefully win the EPL and be in the Champs league next season.
It's quite amazing what they have gone and done! :)

The goals don't matter, winning does and being involved, if he hadn't scored but his game was great and he was helping to make lots of goals with his work and ability woo.... but that is and always was his problem. When Henry didn't score for several games he was still an exceptional footballer, a constant threat and complete ability to work for the team to create danger for himself or others. Giroud lacks most of the all round game, he's a tap in artist, barely dangerous outside of 8 yards, awful on the ball. He makes some nice flicks but in between that he's running out to the wing and completely inept.

Several times today he went wide to get the ball got pinned in and couldn't execute a 5 yard pass backwards successfully but worse is there was literally zero chance for him to beat one of those players then run at goal. Henry, Suarez, Mahrez or Vardy, these are guys that trapped against the byline have the ability to beat a player. You don't have to every time but Giroud is completely awful can't dribble, poor longer passing, poor longer shooting.

He always was incredibly limited, to win titles you need strikers who can create on their own, they don't have to all the time but being part of their game means it doesn't always fall on everyone else. He is the fox in the box Wenger always wanted but nothing more.

So the goals do matter because that is all he can do at the best of times :p?

I'm not really behind them, although it is cool there will be a new winner regardless of who it is, probably would prefer Spurs if it wasn't for the insufferable fans that will only escalate :D their football is good and our game against them this season was probably the most enjoyable game I've watched this season and Poch is cool.

But I think you're being a bit harsh, I imagine most clubs are involved in some horrible things. Didn't Liverpool basically force people out of their houses at Anfield for garbage money? I mean we've had Heysel, the denial of it by the club for years and I'm sure many other scummy things go on

Spurs are going to win all 4 of their remaining games, meaning Leicester need to beat 2 of Man U, Chelsea, Everton.

Still in their own hands, but that's a tough ask for Leicester.

No it isn't. How is it tough for a team at the top after 30 odd games to have to roll over Everton, a poor Manu side and a chelsea side nothing like the one from last year. Why do people keep saying that as though 2015 Leicester are playing someone. It's not, it's the team at that's lost a handful of games all year.

The Everton game is about as easy a game as they could have. A counter attacking team with pace rips are defence apart. Personally I think they will get 6 or 7 points from the last two. If they do drop any points I bet spurs do too.

Leicester has lost 3 games out of 35 they've played all season. These including Man City away, Arsenal away, Tottehham away, West Ham away. Why do people think they will get rolled over now?

Statistically they are only going to lose 1 more at most.

Tottenham is as inexperienced at winning the league as Leicester City are.

I've layed Arsenal at 1.17 for a top 4 finish. Very short. They still have to play Man City away and if Utd win their game in hand, they'll only 2 points behind.

They have Norwich and Villa to play. Probably 2 of the only teams i'd expect us to be able to beat on current form. United won't win all of their remaining games so still expect us to limp into the champs league. Man City might play quite a weakened team too depending on their Champs League games.

I don't see Spurs winning all 4, will be close but can see Leicester pipping it.

On the other hand... isn't this the best performing Tottenham team and the worst performing Chelsea team for at least a decade? :p

Over the whole season? Yes. Since Hiddink took over? No. They're still capable of beating anyone when they can be bothered to play.

But it's Leicester, don't worry, they'll fizzle out by Christmas :p:p

They lost twice to Arsenal and once to Liverpool, they've beaten Chelsea twice, drew with manu and beat Everton this season, I can't see them giving it up now.

No, they don't because even when he's scoring that is all he has. A great player in his role would have the goals and the ability. When Giroud was scoring I was still saying he wasn't good enough because the rest of his contribution was terrible. A better player is required full stop, goals or no goals.

We can lose a game 2-1 with Giroud scoring 1 but him not being good enough outside of that one goal to help the team win. That has always been his problem.

Also some quotes from Wenger in f365

“I could not understand the frustration of the fans. Giroud has the confidence. I have said that many times. He has the mental stature to play in this position. We had Giroud, but we also had Theo Walcott who I believe is a world-class striker, we had Alexis Sanchez who is a world-class striker, and we had Danny Welbeck who is a world-class striker. You have to spend a huge amount of money to improve on that four” – Arsene Wenger, December 26, 2015.

“It’s very simple. We all feel guilty and we are all looked at like it’s a shame we are not winning the league because Leicester are at the top. We don’t have anybody with 20 goals in the league, so that is a handicap” – Arsene Wenger, April 24, 2016.

This is why Wenger should not be our manager any more. What 4 months ago he was calling 4 'strikers' (only Giroud gets used as an out and out central striker) world class, today he's saying none are a 20 goal a year striker. Problem is Welbeck never once looked like one, Walcott clearly wasn't one by the time he was 20, Giroud never was one and Sanchez is debatable simply because I wouldn't really classify him as a striker and it's unlikely he'll score 20 most years.

This is just a matter of time, spurs should be 2 up already. Myhill is going to have to turn into de gea to keep this up. That save from Kane earlier was brilliant to be fair tho.
