The problem with Lucas, like Gerrard, is that he cant play in a 2 man midfield. So sticking him and Gerrard together (like against Southampton) is suicide. You need either Lucas or Gerrard to play in a 3 - Lucas can still play as role for us, he was part of the midfield that destroyed Spurs at their place last season after all.
 
Team pretty much as expected. Moreno in for Manquillo and Allen for Lucas, who doesn't even make the bench.

Johnson's extremely lucky to keep his place in the team after the performance Manquillo put in compared to his own against Southampton.

Other than that, I would've liked to see Tank in there in place of Allen who's probably better off the bench... for another team.
 
It's not so much he's better defensively it's just tried and trusted in a big game. Allen knows the role and what's expected of him. Has Can played that role in a 4-3-3 before?
 
Allen's certainly a better option than Lucas now but up against three midfielders as big and strong as City have concerns me. He's one of the weakest players on and off the ball we've ever had and he's easily bullied off the ball.

You're a harsh *******. Allen and Henderson run all over City's midfield in this game last season.
