Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [25th - 29th November 2011]

Probably burnt out and feeling the pressure of being the only person on that team that can score goals.

I sort of agree with this, nice seeing Arsenal play well again but at the moment if RvP goes down injured or plays badly I struggle to see you winning games. It would be interesting to see where you would be this season in the league without him.

With his goals alone they would have 11 points less (yes i know this doesn't actually reflect the arsenal score without him, but it does show how vital he is)

No Wilshere either. He did have an eye for a through-ball and playing people in, still missing that quite badly. Also while RVP has scored most of the goals, he's the lone striker and has still required service for a lot of his goals. Not saying someone else would have put them away though, but it's not like Messi where he creates and scores half his goals by running rings round defenders.

And again, don't think the squad was rotated enough from midweek; heavy legs. As Wenger said, it's no excuse though, they want to play in the CL they have to find ways to win the games afterwards where they're not 100%.

I'm confused why aren't Chelsea playing Torres now? I was under the impression that his form had been much better since scoring against us, even after getting sent off against Swansea he still scored a couple in his return to the team in the UCL IIRC but now he's out in the cold again?

From what I've seen of him the kid they got from Barca looks a real talent also (no surprise there) and should definitely be starting games ahead of Mikel

After the 3 game ban ended Torres decided to start sulking again due to the changes in the team. That was mainly down to lampard being 1st team fixture again after scoring lots. Lampard stops Torres playing the only way he knows how e.g. bisecting through balls. Today midfield would have suited Torres much more as the passing, esp in the first half, was very quick.

Who does Torres want behind him? Chelsea surely don't have an endless choice of suitable first team midfielders? Can Mata and Lampard not play together or is more a case of who is in the middle?

Just seen the highlights of our game and although Ferdinand got the ball he was a bit daft going to ground when Ben Arfa wasn't really threatening. Simpson's clearance off the line from Hernandez was amazing!!

Not sure the offside goal should have been disallowed either, didn't look to me like Carrick got any touch.

Typical though play pretty rubbish like we did against Sunderland and get the win, play better like we have in the last two games and get underserved results.

He was offside even if Carrick didn't get a touch, he was just more offside if Carrick did get a touch. Someone should tell the idiot to stay onside now and then.

Thing is, its an easy trick, loads of poachers have a gameplan of simply running early, getting caught offside loads but every now and then the decision goes your way or you're actually onside.

As for Torres excusers, Lampard hasn't had an issue with any other striker, he's also a great passer of the ball and anyone who says Lampard is a slow passer needs their head checked. One of the most consistent assist makers and scorers in prem history frankly. Torres is playing crap, because Torres is playing crap, because Torres is playing crap, there isn't much more to it than that.

Why, who knows, the form dropped at Liverpool, though not as badly as the 2nd half of last season. I personally think defenders are getting much better at dealing with him, and referee's are giving him a lot more hassle over his niggling fouls, Torres leaves his foot in on countless tackles and kicks out at players. Refs seem to be calling him more and more on it, so he's kicking people less, less defenders are getting as wound up playing against him, etc, etc.

His last half season at Liverpool he had 89 shots, 31 on target, and 8 goals. Call it 90 shots, 30 on target, 10 goals for the ease of it.

This season he's had 17 shots, 6 on target 2 goals, so pretty much 1 in 3 on target, and 1 in 3 of those gets a goal.

His previous season at Pool he got 18 goals in 20 starts, that last half season(and a bit) he started 22 and scored 9.

You would have to say he's now been in bad form since the beginning of last year, could be time to think his form isn't coming back.

Then again, if he played 38 games in a season and was scoring at a rate of just under 1 in 2, thats not exactly terrible.

One of his, and Anelka's and Drogba's issues with form is pretty simple, Chelsea won't pick a line up and stick with it, they try something for 2 games then try something new. Drogba can't play with Torres, who says, they haven't really tried it, they might both be brilliant by now if they both played every game since he joined.

Frankly dropping Drogba was a truly horrific decision, and then changing between them constantly is helping no one.

No he wasn't, when Giggs' played the ball his left leg (the one furthest away from goal) was level with Ryan Taylor who was behind him

One thing for sure with Chelsea is that Daniel Sturridge will be the top choice striker when AVB picks the starting 11. His in a great run of form, that loan spell at Bolton did him the world of good.

What's that got to do with the price of bacon? Its not any part of your body level with the guy behind, its actually any significant part of your body ahead, at all of the 2nd furthest back opposition player. head/chest/legs/feet basically, arms don't count IIRC. his head/chest and one leg are all ahead of Taylor, I'll freely admit its VERY tight, but for all the world it looks like Carrick gets a touch on it at first look without replay, I've still not seen the reverse angle to prove he didn't touch it.

It's a crazy close call, and I wouldn't bemoan it having been given IF it was clear Carrick didn't touch it, if it looks like he did on first look they've really got to give offside.

I still think one of the main problems with Utd is Rooney wanting to play a different role every week, on a whim some games it runs around in midfield trying to murder everyone, other games he stays near the penalty box, other games he likes wondering out to the wings.

As with Torres/Drogba not officially being given the starting role and Chelsea looking unsure frequently as they play a different line up, Utd look the same, they also have a frequently changing midfield, but they also have their key player changing what position he wants to play on a game by game basis.

I mean, City have a pretty mental squad in terms of depth and they'll be covered for injurys, but its the consistency of the starting spine that seems to be why they are playing so well. Look at the few other teams doing that, Newcastle being the most obvious team. Almost identical team all year, playing brilliantly, everyone knows their exact role and exactly what to do in any given situation.
