Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [27th September - 2nd October 2019]

Both teams trying to play out of the back was almost cringe worthy, it's completely pointless if you don't have center mids who are going to drop off and come get the ball or defenders/a keeper confident enough to make a pass.

Glad you haven’t forgotten that iconic moment.

They’re champions league finalists

Cup competitions are all about luck. They had no right to beat Ajax really but the decisions went their way in the end. In the final they got shown the difference in level between them and the pool. Spurs have been absolutely dire since around April. Almost at United levels. I would even rate Arsenal above them at the moment but on a par with United.

Maybe not but you can't put it all down to luck. Spurs came through a group with Barca, Inter and PSV and then knocked City out on their way to the final.

Maybe so but Spurs/City and Spurs/Ajax could have gone either way. They were very fortunate to win those. The point I am trying to make is a season shows the best where a team is really at. Cup competitions are easily skewed due to the small amount of games and knife edge margins. (Llorentes goal on another day would have been ruled out). How awesome would a champions league be with each team playing each other twice?

Also the original point was Spurs are not at United's level. Judging by there pasting tonight and being an established team points to them being just as bad. How long have that group of players been together now?

So what you meant is fine details are more likely to determine the outcome of cup competitions, not that they're all down to luck.

I guess if you want to word it that way. A fine detail that can go either way depending on someone's opinion seems like the definition of luck to me.
