Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th - 31st October 2016]

Southampton 0 v Chelsea 2

A very good result. Strength in depth is needed for Chelsea. Thought Willian was poor after he came on, and he looks out of sorts now. In January for cover, a replacement for Oscar / Willian and another striker maybe. Batshuayi looks like he's struggling and isn't a real back up for Costa. Time will tell. A great result for Chelsea and they look like title contenders as long as the squad is strengthened again in Jan'.

Costa looks blooming excellent when he's not busy being a grade A ****. So frustrating at times to see his own game suffer hugely when he's looking for arguments and in full on 'wum' mode.

Shown that when he concentrates on doing the footballer thing, he's excellent and while (I know it is all relative) he looked excellent value.

Maybe when mikitaryn stops putting in kagawa-esque performances he will get some game time.

Yea, Kagawa-esque. 1st game you play its city at home, absolute cauldron, he was also taken off at half time, i think you can excuse him. give him a chance

Mourinho might start him against Arsenal though

For all the signings Stoke have made they're finishing this game with Crouch, Walters, Bardsley, Adam, Whelan playing still. Old school.

We're not exactly struggling without him, are we? Seeing him do as well as he is makes you think we should have got £89m for him rather than £14m but he had no future with us. In the system we play now, it's difficult to see where he could fit in. He's never going to be a sitting midfielder and it looks like Klopp wants to play with 2 flexible and creative players as the 2 just ahead.

could have played the Lallana role, good squad player maybe

He could play the same position but not the same role. Allen's far from lazy but he can't do the running that Wijnaldum and Lallana are doing, isn't as flexible in terms of the positions he can play (Wijnaldum and Lallana are all over the shop), nor is he a big enough goal threat*.

I'm sure in an ideal world Klopp would have kept him as a squad player - nobody can have too many options and he'd have been useful coming on for Lallana or Wijnaldum when we're trying to see out a game but he wanted to play regularly and that wasn't going to happen with us.

*Yes I know he's scored a few but it's not going to last.
He played a lot last season for 'Pool, he didn't really fit their system.

Tbf our system last season is quite different to this season. Last season it was more of a 4-2-3-1 and when Allen did play it was quite often in the number 10 position, like he's playing at Stoke. He didn't do too badly either. The problem for him was that he was only doing a job, he's never going to be a number 10 for a side challenging at the top of the table. He might be chipping in with a few goals at the moment but it's not enough for us and tbh, I can't see it lasting either.

As I mentioned earlier, we've changed the way we're playing now though and there just isn't a role for him anymore.
