Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th December 2013 - 1st January 2014]

The more they show that, is it Dawson(crap stream) tackle, he misses the ball and causes the Stoke player to go down.... fairly lucky for it to not be called a penalty.

I originally thought it was a pen but the replays seem to show a tow touching the ball sufficient to move it fairly significantly, so not a pen for me.

Hmmm possibly but Mourhinio comes across as the ultimate pragmatist. He knows how to win the leagues and in most cases that may involve grinding it out against the teams around him. Not my kind of football I would pay for week in week out mind.

Yup, ultimately success makes things worthwhile, the attempt to win things makes sport what it is, but I'd prefer to come second in the title and watch 38 great games(or lets be more realistic and say 30) than watch 30 boring games with a few exciting games against the bottom teams.

Then again Mourinho was in large part fired from Chelsea because he wasn't playing exciting football and he came exceptionally close to being fired from Real for the same reason, boring defensive football. He only won the title when he opened the team up a bit and let them attack.

So first half analysis we have been poor, Allen isn't putting any stamp on midfield. Sterling hasn't managed a final ball when needed. Suarez kept quite we haven't got him in the game and our keeper made another howler. Why our defence has gotten so poor last year I don't know. Weather it's Rodgers chop n changing maybe. Chelsea have been far at better than is anyway. There bench could destroy us today our bench hasn't even got an adult mature player on it

Our problem is that we're turning into Arsenal. When it's going well we're great to watch. However, we'll struggle against stronger teams, and if we aren't on form we won't get a result.

In a way, it's good - we're actually playing good football and are capable of tearing teams apart when playing well. It's the most exciting we've been to watch for years. To go to the next level we now need to bring in a couple more physical options - a powerful midfielder and striker would improve us drastically.

If you get chance and haven't read it, get Barca:The making of the greatest team in the world

A very good chapter in there about Jose and how close he was to signing on as Baraca Manager just before Guardiola became manager and how his footballing philosophy is at odd's with how Barca demand to play football . Pretty much read this in a night, couldn't put it down.

Agree with that. No service to the striker and allen is a waste.

Skrtel off for Cissokho, change to 3 at the back and see how that pans out.

Agger at left back has ruined the team because we can't defend against pace so have to play deeper, he can't make overlapping runs down the left so Coutinho's got no room to play in meaning Suarez has had no service.

u mean sakho off, surely

sakho needs a slap 4 the shirt swap.

It's a shirt, it's amazing how fans can get upset over swapping shirts at half time but at full time it's perfectly fine..... like there is the slightest difference.

Either way, Brentford win 3-1, Wolves/Orient draw, Brentford go top on 49 points with the other two level on 48 points. Ridiculous come back, ridiculous.

After 11 games Brentford were 11 points behind Wolves and 14 behind Orient. After 23 games Brentford are 1 point clear of both and top of the table........

15 points in the first 11 games, 34 in the next 12 games.

11 wins and 1 draw is a phenomenal run, ridiculous, epic...... AND witha manager change 3-4 games ago.

Who'd be at centre back? Johnson?

For me, we just need one of the three CBs off for Cissokho, and keep the same formation. Having someone who can actually bomb on down that side will improve us a lot.

Continuing with Spurs; the bi-polar club, the more I see of Sherwood's teams the more I think they are totally from the Redknapp school of management. Redknapp bought the best players available and told them to go and play as well as they could without any restriction from a "system". However there are no instructions on how to win a game.

AVB was all about getting players to ignore their individuality in order to play a role in the system. The system can be tweaked but fundamentally there is little flair or spontaneity.

I wish we would get a coach who would blend the two schools of thought.

What about the midfield? Change the back all you want but allen is awol and lucas not far behind him.

The issue is that we're totally unbalanced when on the ball, though. We need a left back who's capable of going forward so we can hold the ball, slow the game down, and gain some control.
