Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th November - 3rd December 2014]

Once they went down to 10 men we needed our midfield to take control of the game but they couldn't. It was embarrassing to watch. I know you don't rate him but Allen gives us some control in midfield and he should have come on long before he did.
You should try and be more positive, like me :)

Lucas was a shout for our best player on the pitch again, no surprise 2 games started in the league and 2 won. Henderson with another goal aswell, its almost as if he doesnt have babysit someone and can get into goal scoring positions isnt it.

another 3 points though, I'll take that every game

Our best player? Did you not think he was directly to blame for their goal, constantly gave the ball and free kicks away? He was dreadful. And Hendersons goal came when he was moved out of central midfield because we were getting out played by 10 man Leicester.

I've said for over 3 years that Henderson can't play in a 2 man cm. He can't control a midfield and his biggest attribute is his running power which gets wasted. All his best performances come when he's played wide or in a 3 man midfield.

lol **** off.

Only 4 fouls, and his passing was around 80% - I woul take those stats considering his interceptions amounted to half the teams add in his tackling, heading and more importantly his leadership in the middle of park and yeah, 2 wins from 2 since we got a proper player in there.

Only 4? The rest of the team combined gave away 6, and Iinm all 4 were within range for them to knock the ball into our box where we look all at sea. And his pass completion rate was only better than Lambert, Johnson and Mignolet (40% :o). For a cm that doesn't play many ambitious passes, his completion rate was terrible. Gerrard and Henderson, who played just as many passes although a higher amount of harder/adventurous passes had much higher completion rates.

And you might have missed it but we were drawing when he came off vs Stoke. You can't really try to imply that we won because of him, especially not when he'd missed our easiest chance to score and would have been responsible for us going behind had Bojans shot been an inch further to the right.

There's not a player in our squad that I want to do well more than Lucas but he's simply not capable anymore. The defensive side of his game is gone. 2 years ago Lucas is over to their winger and winning the ball back, now he can't get there and either gets beat too easily (Bojan at the weekend) or is too scared to get close and they're able to come inside and attack (their goal today).

Edit: tbf to Lucas one of the fouls against him was a clear dive.

Strange how everyone has given him our MotD in the past 2 games though isnt it. CM? No DM, massive difference.

Lucas stats from last night
45/57 passes, 10/12 tackles, 5/9 headed duels, 4 interceptions & 8 clearances. Again, I will take those from our DM every single game.

Regardless, of his performance levels which we may disgree about - its not surprise we look better than the liabilaty that was there previously.

Liverpool this season in all comps with Lucas: WWLWWLWDWW (7W, 1D, 2L) Without: LWLDLWLDLLL (2W, 2D, 7L)

The win against Stoke was rather fortuitus, helpded by a wonderful intial pass by Henderson. Oh and Allen had the easist chance of the game vs Stoke, also I beleive the Lucas shot was our first in over 2 hours of play?

Everybody gave him motm? Gerrard was given motm yesterday (Sterling for me though) and I don't recall any motm being given vs Stoke.

I disagree about the whole performance of the team. We were just as bad yesterday as we were vs Palace. Leicester just didn't have any cutting edge to their attacks and we had a couple bounces of the ball to get us our 2nd and 3rd goal. Like I said in my first post, it was embarrassing. Even when we had a man advantage we had no control of the game and it looked like they would be the side to score at 2-1.

And we defineltly do disagree about Lucas' performance levels. Look at the passing stats for any decent dm that doesn't play many key passes. They'll be completing 90%+ not 79% of their passes. That's what we needed yesterday, somebody to get on the ball and take the sting out of the game but we kept giving the ball straight back to Leicester or giving them free-kicks within 40 yards of our goal.

As for the Stoke game - you're right it was somewhat fortuitous which is a concern because we did play well that game. We should have won that game quite comfortably but we lacked real attacking/creative quality in midfield. Lucas, Allen and Henderson (although his was a harder chance) all had chances to put us ahead that day and all come up short. This is why I'll never be in a rush to drop Gerrard. He can have a poor game overall (I didn't think he played great yesterday) but can still pop up with 2 or 3 key moments in a match (even if only a set play (we have no other capable set piece takers)) that'll be the difference between winning or drawing. We have no other midfielder that can do that. The others can have a good all round performance and you could end up walking off feeling sorry for yourself as we nearly did vs Stoke. Henderson is the one which needs to step up most in that respect, which is why I mentioned that it was good to see him chip in with a goal. If he can start scoring 10-15 goals per season and playing the key passes that Gerrard does then we won't need to keep picking him.

Pelle should have made it 1-0 Southampton, played around our team perfectly, suckered absolutely everyone in with that one two to get him free in the box, blasted high instead.

Arsenal still looking pointless, WElbeck through once but his attempted finish was awful, his balance was completely wrong, leaning back and the attempted finish looked ridiculous. Sanchez trying to shoot from range, Ox with another run that looked positive but had absolutely nothing on the end of it. Arsenal performances are so predictable and similar all year. Still again with 3 games in a week we didn't make all the subs at the weekend and pretty much same team tonight. Still no Pod, Rosicky, Campbell, Hellarin. Play poorly over and over again, same players being generally poor, Wenger refusing to give other players a chance to maybe make us look less crap.

lol, interesting minute, Sunderland and Chelsea take the lead in their respective games.

Spurs looking decent, but Chelsea still with the ultimate quality to finish their chances, nice one-two and a goal for Hazard. They are miles behind Chelsea on actual quality and literally have only just settled into the team looking good playing together, I wouldn't expect them to win but their Everton performance and how they've played tonight so far, certainly looks like a case of Poch's system starting to come together.

EDIT:-

Aguero being Aguero , quick equaliser.
