Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th December 2017 - 4th January 2018]

Terrible decisions in that game, seeing a ref refuse to bring a physio on what with their years of dedicated medical training.. it's genuinely disgraceful. ACL's can be torn from the most innocuous looking movement, the ref has precisely zero right and no ability to judge of a player is genuinely injured or not.

Puncheon should have gotten a clear as day red card, ref is completely blind to give it and Zaha should get a 3 game ban for diving. Sterling was alongside him, Zaha put his arm across Sterling, leaned in a bit then flopped, Sterling did absolutely nothing at all. I think a couple of his penalties before that one could have gotten him a ban.

Palace defended well but City look tired, looked like they've been through a few 90min long kickings and look the worse for it not surprisingly.

Totally agree, don't know what he was thinking taking things into his own hands. I would like to think the FA will call him out for that - But I won't hold my breath.

I agree - Was an awful challenge - should have been a straight red.

...and Zaha should get a 3 game ban for diving. Sterling was alongside him, Zaha put his arm across Sterling, leaned in a bit then flopped, Sterling did absolutely nothing at all. I think a couple of his penalties before that one could have gotten him a ban.

I disagree - I've seen pens be given before that look just like it and no bans have been given. It needs to be a clear dive to give a three day match ban, and in the end it just wasn't clear enough of a dive.

Overall, I think the Ref made some mistakes for sure - But I've certainly seen worse this season.

I think there are times that they are too close to call, but I also think the league has let Zaha away with one fairly obvious one already this season that should have been punished and more importantly on replay Sterling did nothing. At least on the other one the keeper was coming across and probably would have clipped Zaha at least a little anyway but that time Zaha was well on his way down and forced the contact. Here Sterling made no real movement with any part of his body, he was just alongside Zaha, there was nothing at all to cause him to go down except that he chose to.

I hope they get him because I both believe he deserves it and he's gotten away with at least one, maybe two already, the league needs to make a statement.

Wilshere playing again... refuses to use him most of the season in rotation... despite coming into the side and playing immediately miles beyond Ramsey or any other midfielder we have both offensively and defensively. Now because Ramsey got injured Wilshere is playing way too much, way too often, I'm basically waiting for his season ending injury to happen at this point.

So who should we rotate him with? Also his only started 2/3 games. Pipe down

If as per usual you don't know what you're talking about you should be the one to pipe down. This is Wilshere's 5th start in the row, it's the 7th game he's played in... in December. Another way to look at is 6 starts and one sub appearance in 24 days. Before december he was on the pitch in 11 games, only 6 of those were starts, the starts were averaging almost 2 weeks apart and his sub appearances averaged about 20 mins. He went from not playing much to entirely first team for all of December in the densest period of games without any chance to build up fitness by playing consistent games before that. It's also the same where players constantly get injured with Wenger.

First team option, Ramsey, doesn't get rotated enough and gets injured, due to that injury Wenger takes someone who hasn't been playing much and plays them every single game... until they inevitably get injured. This has continued for over a decade. But pipe down because it's only 2/3 games.

Coquelin is barely being used, Walcott is barely being used, Giroud is barely being used. How about switch to 4-4-2, start Giroud and Lacazette upfront and Coquelin and Xhaka in central mid. This is how you win titles, smart rotation... it's better if you get rid of players who aren't good enough so you have a squad with good depth. It's not my fault Wenger has kept Walcott, bought Welbeck, bought Elneny and Xhaka(neither good enough) nor have any top notch youth players comping through any more. In the distant past we let reserves/youngsters run the cups to after winter and used them heavily for rotation of xmas. We can't any more as our youth sucks and too much of our first team squad sucks. That isn't a good reason to just play the good ones so much that they get injured.

Let's also just see the irony, Wilshere wasn't being started for Arsenal or England because both managers deemed him unreliable fitness wise. Yet despite not trusting his fitness enough to make him part of the first team plans, he uses him a ridiculous amount this month. Also been Arsenal's best player this month (and in most of the european games), so had we used him sensibly we might be doing better this year overall.

You pipe down.

Wilshere hasn't played full 90min in every game this month.

Second of all giroud is injured so how can he play 4 4 2?

Coq is a dm like xaka
You need a cm to replace Ramsey and Wilshere. You talk about Walcott? Yea let's play Walcott down the middle of the park lol. Clueless.

You love typing a lot of nonsense creating an illusion you are some kind of famous book writer

Wishere hasn't been subbed this month from what I can recall, meaning he's had 6 x 90 min appearances and one sub appearance.

I didn't say Walcott down the middle, you can change formation and open up other options. That is what you have to do, if he had a better squad he would have better like for like replacements, he doesn't, that is his fault. Playing someone too injury and refusing to use your squad is not good managing.

Xhaka is NOT a defensive midfielder in any way shape or form, he's a central midfielder, he was a central mid before joining ARsenal, never a defensive midfielder. Wenger randomly bought him as a defensive mid because he's an idiot. Again spending 35mil on a central mid and playing him as a DM (a bad one) is stupid. If we played 4-4-2 and had more attacking options on the pitch it would be... shock horror, less important to have a creative central midfielder on.

EDIT:- checked, Wilshere hasn't been subbed off once so 6x 90+ min games in the month as well as a sub, in at least two of those games we didn't even make 3 substitutes and despite knowing the busy period was coming Wenger continued to make many of those subs stupidly late. Like Walcott on in the 89th minute, utterly pointless. Wenger doing as little as he can to keep the squad fresh over a busy period.
