Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th December 2017 - 4th January 2018]

Bobby Madley is an awful ref. Can't be blamed for the offside and maybe a couple of other debatable decisions but not to send Sanchez off was as bad a decision as you'll see all season.

Doubtful, we're in the business of hiring nobodies from foreign clubs and then hoping they're the next Pochettino
Puel done ok to be fair. 8th in the league and a decent set of officials away from winning the League Cup.

Btw, what happened to Gabbiadini? He looked so good up until February then fell off a cliff.

Puels football was dire here and was the start of our decline, neither manager was any good for us in reality. 8th was hugely flattering last year.

Gabbiadini has returned to his normal goal scoring rate.

Edit - To flesh that out a bit more, we finished 8th but only 6 points above 17th. The league was incredibly compressed last season, one less win and we'd have been 14th. We won just once in the last 8 games of the season, scoring a whopping 4 goals. Puel needed to go then and Pellegrino needs to go now and given the similarities in performance probably some suits that are calling too many shots need to be gone too.

Could it be the 1st time 40 points doesn't guarantee safety?

What are you basing that on exactly? To get 40 points you need just over 1.05points per game on average, the bottom 9 teams are all on course for a sub 40 point finish as it stands. The bottom 5 teams are on course for under 35 points, though that does include Palace whose first 7 games and Hodgson only taking over before a Manchester away double means their ppg since is enough to go quite a bit higher than 40, at the same time, other teams are doing much worse since.

On the last 8 games alone there are 8 teams with a less than 1 ppg average (watford gone to crap on 0.5, Palace on a strong 1.38).

This season looks very much like at least 4 teams won't make it to 40 and wouldn't be surprising if 5 didn't.

Think that linesmen in the Swansea game was suffering from a 2 day hangover. Llorente was yards offside, and lino had easy sight of it. Still take the points woohoo COYS

Watching MOTD, I didn't realise how close our winner was to offside - didn't get mentioned once live but that was very tight.
