Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th March - 2nd April 2014]

BT commentators dire. Say mata missed the ball when he was actually doing a turn. Owen saying its a red, then 1 min later when replays show he's wrong he says "clearly a yellow"

I think its really time to get shot of Van Persie and push Rooney up front, he is just way more up for it in every game he plays in, Kagawa in the number 10 role, Mata + an other as inside forwards.

Two beastly midfielders are needed behind them, plus the obvious defensive flaws, I think Rafael is an excellent player, but his temperament is shocking at times. If he gets that under control he could be solid (if not injured!).

No, the commentators are both saying he missed the ball with his foot while he was trying to turn. The ball went under and past his left foot, his right leg was taken after he the ball was moving away from him. Mata absolutely did miss the ball.

Watch it again. He's in the process of turning out, away from Villa's goal.

only seen it the once tbh.

Looked like the striker was taken out by the last man.

Maybe he missed the ball? Not sure if that makes it less of a red?

However, only seen it as it happened ;)

Well if he missed the ball it's not a red as it's not a clear goalscoring opportunity. If he was turning out it's not a red as he would have been going the other way.

Such **** defending for both goals. The sooner Lambert drops Weimann, puts Bacuna on the RW and plays Lowton at the back the better. Oh, and Okore, get well soon. Clark and Baker are crap.

ok we'll have to disagree on that one :)

I'm just not clear where I'm wrong. The rule is that it's a red for a clear goalscoring opportunity. If he doesn't have the ball or is turning away from goal, it's not a clear goalscoring opportunity. Please tell me what's incorrect.

Mata only missed the ball due to his standing leg being taken away from him. I don't think its a red, but him "missing the ball" is an irrelevance as the foul occurred before then.

ok.

Was it a foul? Was the defender the last man, and was it a "goal scoring opportunity"?

If you have 3 no's there then I agree with you.

However, I don't.

Like I said, a differing view mate :)
