Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd - 4th January 2017]

Dele Alli is becoming the new Tim Cahill, he has a bit of a knack for getting on the end of crosses with his head.

Has he scored that many headers? He's scored plenty with his feet and from all types of places, plus his overall play is excellent. I'd say he's the new Lampard, looking like he'll be a 10+ goal 10+ assist a season player.

I mean he's scored 9 or more in all three seasons so far, though his assist rate is a bit crap this year but he's 20. If he goes through a 4-5th season(as most players do) huge jump in assist/goal scoring rate, he'll be ridiculous.

As much as I despise the Spurs, I have to say they are doing an immense job on Chelsea. I guess their winning run has come to end now :p.

Only thing is that it means they jump ahead of us in the table but I guess the silver lining is that the teams below Chelsea are now laughing at them dropping points tonight.

I would not worry too much, we've finished above spurs for the last 20 years.

Forever in our shadow.

:D

Revenge is a dish best served cold :D

did you mean with ice?:D

Would have preferred a draw, but I'm not sure this Chelsea side actually deserved the 14 win record run (how many times earlier in the season did costa deserve to be sent off before scoring the winning goal? twice? three times?)

Certainly makes the top 6 a lot more interesting for the next 18 games ( honestly without European games I still think Chelsea have it in the bag as long as they don't get a major injury in the next month or so, but any of the next 5 are capable of taking the 3 remaining CL spots.... and depending on the randomness of "form" can possibly put a title challenge together)

Fair play to Spurs, not much in the game, both teams at full strength and same formations / tactics.

Chelsea just not at the races tonight, not poor, but not great, particularly offensively.

Hazard was the only Chelsea player to offer a threat going forward and he had no support, Pedro was particularly poor (yet still worked hard)

Spurs took their chances and deserved their win.

Willian on the bench yet Chelsea at full strength.....really?

I know he has had a terrible few months, full respect for him being here for the last month or so, but surely Conte made a mistake for not starting him in one of the biggest fixtures of the Christmas/NY period?

It's not really a clear cut decision. It's debatable. I prefer William to Pedro (particularly considering Fabregas wasn't playing so we could have used him for corners ) However, both have been playing well (Pedro more so factoring in Willian's personal struggles) so it's not a given.

I can see your point though. As a Chelsea fan, I'm not that mad to lose this game, it's away to Spurs and we weren't great. We however, were not poor and are still sitting pretty top of the league.

We also play Bournemouth next whilst Liverpool meet.....United... at Old Trafford.
