Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd - 5th March 2012]

Evans was good today, one great tackle on adebayor in particular. Jones was beaten once in particular by Lennon (who I thought should have been MOTM) that led to the disallowed goal.

However Sturridge has played out wide an awful lot hasn't he? And we really need to be comparing to our competition, City. Welbeck is severely behind the likes of Balotelli and Dezko in the goalscoring stakes. I just worry that if Rooney has an off day Welbeck doesn't look like someone who can offer enough goal threat.

You cant compare our strikers with City's though and if you do you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Our strikers who were bought over a period of time equal a total cost of around £68m (assuming Hernandez cost 10m). City's on the other hand cost a rumoured £131m over the course of 2 or 3 years;

Rooney - 28m
Berbatov - 30m
Hernandez - 10m
Welbeck - Free

Tevez - Allegedly 47m
Balotelli - 19m
Aguero - 38m
Dzeko - 27m

Documentary on QPR when Flav/Bernie and co bought them on BBC2 now, looks like it could be pretty good Flav used to be a bit of a nutter in F1 so can't imagine he was any different at QPR!

lol wut?

Lennon MOTM? U serious bro?

Lennon wasn't even Spurs best player let alone the best player on the pitch :p

He really impressed me today, beat Jones once with ease and beat Evra several times down the left. If the front two had been a bit better he could have set up several today? Who would be your motm then? I don't think any United player deserved it really, maybe Rio.

For us yeah Rio or Evans for Spurs though without doubt Adebayor or Saha both caused problems all game long and had the service from the likes of Lennon been better may have actually scored.

It's slim pickings whichever way you look at it though, we obviously weren't great but then nor were Spurs despite all their possession (I certainly didn't see anything amazing from Lennon apart from the one run that led to the disallowed goal)

Most of that becomes irrelevant when you consider that there have been plenty of 5-15mil buys who could and would do better than Welbeck and are just better players. Also Berbatov is just far far better than Welbeck.

4 of the top 10 current league scorers cost sub 5mil didn't they. RVP, Ba, Yakubu(can't actually remember what they paid for him 3mil or thinking of someone else?) Grant Holt.

THen look at the rest of that table and most of those guys outscoring Welbeck(at worse teams) cost very very little.

You don't have to spend 30mil to get a player WAY better than Welbeck.

Parker did the same midweek and now he's referred to as Parker the Brave by the media :o

well I guess Rio didnt exactly give away the goal today , unlike a certain Spurs player while on England duty lol

Some of the reports on thursday sounded like Parker was the 2nd coming or something, it was laughable (dont get me wrong, he did ok but Holland are infamous for flattering to decieve most of the time)

Dont get me wrong I'm not suggesting Welbeck is as good as any of the players I mentioned (although I do think he's better than Sturridge) but goals stat is what it is and that for a player who's not as good as say Suarez he's only got 1 goal less than him in all comps and wasn't it you that was saying only yesterday creating chances and missing them is irrelevant when compared with someone who actually puts it in the back of the net ;)

Assuming I said that about Suarez, its because I don't rate Suarez at all based on his time at Liverpool. He gets a huge amount of the ball, and can't score to save his life right now, missing chance after chance.... if Welbeck is close but still can't match a guy who is playing badly(but may infact be a good player) that just suggests that he is worse than Suarez... who isn't very good right now.

Sturridge, people think he's brilliant one minute crap the next. He's not been much more than a poacher since day one, he looked like he had potential at City, and still at Chelsea but they are playing him as a winger much like Anelka, for no particular reason, and Chelsea also suck balls.

If he wasn't english no one would be hyping him up, actually I should say, if he wasn't English and young no one would hype him up, no one gives a damn about Graham or Holt.

Sturridge may or may not turn out to be a good poacher, right now he doesn't look great, and I still think he's better than Welbeck. Played in the role Welbeck has played most of the season I think he'd be scoring at a significantly higher rate than Welbeck.

Tom you think Welbeck is better than Sturridge? :o

Yes. There's not a lot in it but ultimately yes. You can leave the embarrassed smiley at home as well given what you've said about certain players recently ;)

It's not irrelevant at all, if you go by that logic then why not just abolish the whole academy system and be done with it if your answer is to simply buy every player in your squad?

You're also failing to take into consideration the necessity of the quota of home grown players and the 25 man squad ruling. Say we sold Welbeck at the start of the season and replaced him with someone like Ba not only does that reduce the overall number of home grown players it also takes up a spot in our 25 man squad a spot of which Welbeck wasn't taking up as he was under 21 at the start of January 2011 and thus didn't need to be registered.

There's a reason there's very few English players making the grade and being good enough for the National side and you've just highlighted it with your mentality

Sturridge still looks so good on the ball, just (like most of Chelsea) short of confidence; against Napoli he was the only Chelsea player to hold on to the ball and did so with quality, I think he's a really good player tbh.

edit: didn't realise it was an embarrassed smily, thought it was a shocked smiley tbh.

As for what I've said recently, that I think Berbatov and Hernandez (and myself ;)) are better strikers than Welbeck or?

This QPR program is embarrassing. The owners are acting like complete ***** :o
Why do I imagine Chelsea's boardrooms been similar to this the last 48 hours :p

Flavio asking for the names of the fans booing him was a lol moment :D

Blimey they went through a crazy amount of managers before Warnock! Amusingly though for all the crazy antics of Flav and his henchmen they did make the premiership as promised in their 4 year plan!
