Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th - 31st August 2014]

Goals on 1 and 90 minutes. Top bookending from Costa.

So, I wonder if many people still think Chelsea should have kept Lukaku and not signed him.

Did anyone anywhere say that Lukaku was good enough to be starting every game for CHelsea, literally a single person? People questioned the logic of having a 15-20 goal a year striker at the club, letting him go when your back up strikers are Torres and Ba(at the time). I and I don't think anyone else I saw said don't buy Costa and use Lukaku.

As for danny, you seem to be wrong about almost everything and you are still completely ignoring the fact that Lukaku is 21, and is doing better than almost any other striker around at the same age, including Costa.

No one anywhere is saying he's the finished article, but at 21 he's well ahead of the majority of other 21 year olds, something danny refuses to acknowledge. According to danny he's not the best striker in the world now, so he'll also never be the best striker in the world, there is zero chance of it.

That would have been a really close game if not for Everton's pub team defending every time they got back into it, great match all the same though.

Match of the Day tonight at 10.20pm:
1.Everton v Chelsea, 2.Man City v Stoke, 3.Newcastle v Crystal Palace, 4.Swansea v West Brom, 5.West Ham v Southampton, 6.Burnley v Man Utd, 7.QPR v Sunderland.

The touch by that lad when he just came on, oh my word .... hahahah.

Hard to feel sorry for him when he's trying something like that.

What a stupid game of football, that's the sort of game you get on Boxing Day when a couple of defenders have had a bit too much Xmas pud and the lino's been at the sherry for a few days, he won't get another game in the PL for a while by the way.
Very happy with the 3 points but a bit concerned about how easily Everton cut us apart at times.

Would anyone fancy going out for a pint with Eidur Gudjohnsen & Phil Neville?

Great game :) Uncharacteristically sloppy defending from Chelsea in places though. I'm sure Jose will have a few words to say about that. Great that we finally have the fire power to be putting away so many goal away from home though.

Not sure how Tim Howard managed to stay on the field though... Costa was pushing it as well.

Suarez and Costa calmed down a lot last year at least during the league, but both were angling for their big move and to big wages. Will either of them manage to contain the nasty side of their game now they have their contracts, who knows. We'll see.

The 2012/13 season was particularly nasty from both players.

While his goading of Coleman after he scored an own goal certainly wasn't sportsman like, he did it as he ran past, he didn't touch him afaik and didn't stand there for ages. It was just a **** you for barging me around a minute ago, nothing more. But I suspect he'll get a red or two this year and see if he does anything bad enough to get a longer ban, more than possible.

Costa did enough nasty stuff to get some long bans in La Liga but got away with all of it(beyond a standard red card) so the club may not have had any behaviour clauses in his contract. Suarez however you would imagine has all kinds of clauses, like not being paid for any week he has a ban, maybe losing out on title bonuses in any years he's gotten himself a 3+ game ban as well, that kind of thing. With him, no idea if it will help. Costa is youngish(supposedly at least) and may have grown out of it, Suarez is a repeat offender, way to old, i'd put money on him slipping up again in the future.
