Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th Dec 2011 - 4th Jan 2012]

good second half and gerrard literally did save that for liverpool, well, him and skrtle's goal clearance. carroll has a lot to thank them for!

Good game for us Gerrard fixed us yet again! Changed the game completly he also got Carroll into the game better than any one else has managed so far.

Skrtel clearance was immense just hope him and Agger can stay fit all season :D

Just to moan DOWNING! At the end could have passed to Henderson or Carroll for them to score but no wants to waste an easier option by trying to lob it GRRR

it hasn't finished yet but yeah, newcastle fans going to find it difficult to argue with the score if it remains the same

take consolation in andy carroll :D

Any Newcastle fan who did try and argue with that would be deluded and i'll tell them myself.

I have said all season we are not good enough on a technical level, we need 11 players to turn up and put in a shift and really try. Being brutally honest I think 2 players tried on the pitch and that was Guti and Vuckic (who both played badly despite trying) the rest strolled round and suited themselves and what Simpson was doing for the second goal is truly beyond me

To be fair they lost their way completely after the few hard games (manu, citeh and chelski) which was always a worry. They have morphed into a team full of individuals suiting themselves rather than a team playing as a team, it looks like they believed their own hype especially players like Taylor, Simpson, Bent, Ben Arfa and Obertan.

As I say though well played Liverpool, you were the only team in it and you deserved 3 points!

Not a great performance but a deserved win never the less. We've played a lot better than that this season without winning so I'm not going to be complaining with todays performance.

Absolutely disgusting challenge from Cabaye; he had a look at Spearing and then went in with only 1 intention. It's only luck that Spearing hasn't got a broken leg. I'm not sure what's more ridiculous though, the fact that with the FA it's not even certain he'll get a ban or that even if he does, it's going to be less than half the ban Suarez got.

Great performance once Gerrard came on for Rab C McDonalds and a deserved win.

Defence were magnificent yet again but Spearing really shored up the centre of midfield and filled the hole so to speak. Should be starting in place of Henderson or Adams from now on. They do not compliment the defence or each other when they're partnered together!

Skrtel, Spearing or Bellamy for MotM.

Don't know how Collocini or Cabaye both weren't sent off, Lee Probert once again showing he has mental disabilities.

I'll rewatch it when I get the chance and I will happily admit if I am wrong but on first viewing they both went for the ball and Spearing came off worse with no ill intent on either side. This whole "he watched him and stamped him" is BS BUT as I say I haven't seen any replays (and i'm certainly not watching Redknapp crow on post match) so if I am wrong and see the evidence I do apoligise.

I'm watching the replay of it right now. He's had a look at Spearing and gone straight into Spearing. His only intention was to injure Spearing.

Liverpool for the title!

My goodness Newcastle were woefull. Liverpool looked much better when Gerrard came on but only worrying thing for them is they needed him to overcome such an average looking toon side. They were scared of the ball!

It is not even close to being both going for the ball, he sees he hasn't a hope of the ball and stamps down on spearing, don't know why you'd stamp your foot onto a football.

You're certainly not a glass half full man though, are you? :p
No. It's either full or empty! :p

I think there are plenty of plus points despite my dislike for certain players. Enrique has been a fantastic signing and looks to be our best left back for years. Johnson has been an absolute rock since regaining full fitness and is as good as any right back in the league on his day and Skrtel and Agger are beginning to rival the Carragher and Hyypia partnership. Our defence is immense at the moment and with Reina behind them and Lucas in front we could be set for years.

Just a shame we haven't been able to find the right balance between attack and defence for over two decades. Would love to have some of our attacking players from the early to mid 90s, Fowler especially :(

Newcastle were a bit negative considering how they're doing this season and the players they were actually playing against, seemed they were playing against Liverpool 'the big club' rather than the team on the pitch.

Carroll is technically so poor it's embarrassing, that wonder ball from Gerrard picked him out unmarked, 18 yards out and his first touch was *genuinely* worse than mine.

On a side note, it bothers me immensely how people (including on here) sulk and blame the referees for bad decisions. Ok they make mistakes but it's such a difficult job, the speed of the game is so quick and they are paid nothing in comparison to the scumbags they are trying to keep in check. Linesmen are paid less in a year than the players are in a week and they do a really good job in comparison. I'd love a referee with a bit of a personality to come up and say after a game, after being criticised, (for example), "well I may have got that corner wrong, but I feel Fergie should have started Berbatov and not Hernandez but I don't comment so maybe he shouldn't", just to put everything in to perspective.

/rant over.
