Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th March - 3rd April 2018]

A deliberate handball isnt always a yellow...it's not a rule/law.

Personally think it was the wrong decision to not give Mane the free kick, but in that position on the edge of the box he should have got a yellow.

Just checked, you're actually right. Taken from the FA website

Q3: Why has the wording for a caution (YC) for handball changed?

Some referees were interpreting every handball as ‘denying the opponents possession’ so every handball was punished with a caution (YC) - this was not the intention of the Law. Where a handball affects the opponents it should be judged like a foul – if it stops or interferes with a promising attack then it is a caution (YC).

So what you’re saying is your glad he didn’t **** up the game further compounding his mistake? Glad you saw sense

Terrible, disjointed performance from us today but 3 points is all that matters.

I don't want to get on his back because he's a young lad playing in an unnatural position but I'm really worried about Trent vs City. Positionally he's still learning to play as a fullback and City could really exploit that with the way they play. Assuming Clyne won't be thrown straight in vs City on Wednesday and won't be able to play Everton and then the 2nd leg, I'd be inclined to arrange a behind closed doors game for him during the week so he can start the 2nd leg.
As above the ref is deciding this game
He tried his best - instead of giving us a pen, he wrongly booked Mane for diving in the first half and then didn't give Liverpool a clear foul on the edge of the area when Mane was fouled and subsequently tried his best to get a 2nd booking. The ref was terrible, I'll give you that but to suggest it benefited Liverpool in any way is a bit of a stretch.

Terrible performance, fantastic result.

TAA and Matip were both absolutely shocking today. TAA kept allowing Zaha to get goal side and Matip kept giving away possession. TAA will hopefully develop in to a decent fullback or an excellent midfielder but he's way too raw at the moment. Matip, I'm lost as to what's happened to him after an excellent first season.

I'm also concerned Klopp failed to notice Palace were attacking down our right side all game and did absolutely nothing for the 90 minutes to try and stop them.

Positives were Van Dijk who was vocal and helped to organise the defence, Robertson who's been our stand out performer alongside Salah for months and Firmino who worked his ass off all game despite never really flowing going forward.

Must win game and we won. Happy Easter Hodgson :)

Do you dislike Klopp? All you seem to do is pile on him.

Dermot Gallagher explaining half the problem we have with diving - he's basing the entire decision on whether Mane should have had a pen or booked for diving entirely on Mane's reaction rather than the tackle on him. Whether the attacker stays on his feet or does a triple somersault, the only thing that determines whether a challenge is a foul or not is the action of the defensive player. The Palace defender trips Mane, it's a foul regardless of whether Mane stayed up or threw himself to the ground.

As long as refs keep giving decisions based on the reaction of the attacker rather than the actual challenge then they're going to encourage diving because players know that if they're fouled but stay on their feet, there's not a chance in hell the ref gives the decision.
