Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4 - 8th May 2013]

GET IN! :D

Thank **** for Swansea! Gives us a little more wriggle room especially as Wigan have two hard games left but we still need to beat QPR, only a draw isn't a disaster now but we could really do with a win.

Thanks Swansea, beating Wigan tonight might just mean they are on their way down...i can only hope it happens but seeing as we play them next, i wouldnt be surprised if they manage to draw or beat Arsenal especially with the way we played against QPR at the weekend :/

Problem with Wigan, they don't seem to have really progressed since coming up all those years ago. They just have sort of survived every time. Teams like Swansea have made good signings generally and they will probably be looking at European football in the next few years, possibly moving onto CL football if they carry on the way they are!

Wigan are just sort of 'there'. Will be good to give another team a chance, preferably one who will be filling out their stadium regularly. Brighton would be good.

Pardews best game of the season tonight. Bet he stood in his living room, vacantly watching his television and on 60mins tried to bring Shola Ameobi off his settee.

I think the league finances need to be restructured, though I'm not sure how to do that without making it even harder to break into the top 4-6.

Ultimately there is little financial benefit from coming 10th in the league, over 18th, you get half a mil more for every extra place you finish(or was previously), but considering teams are surviving on 40mil wage bills, and the guys pushing Europe spots are generally spending 60mil, those fighting(but failing) to get champs league spots are near 100mil and those in the top four(and Pool) are WELL over 100mil. 20mil more in wages to go from 18th to 8th, but only 5mil increase in winnings?

There is very little reason in this league to push to do better, Wigan's motivation is survival because a team that could finish 10 places higher, would cost far more than the extra the higher position would bring back to the club, so whats the point. If you can scrape 18th with a ridiculously cheap team you stand to be potentially much more profitable than teams finishing higher than them.

I think the top teams because of champs league, stadium size, sponsorship already have too much cash, and teams like Wigan simply can't ever hope to compete, so simply changing the gap between each team and giving the champions more and the bottom few teams get massively less cash, would make the money gap even bigger between top and bottom. But we definitely need a financial reason to make teams like Wigan aim higher than 18th, to make the Swansea's/Fulham's/WBA's not give up when they are safe, to keep the league fair and exciting throughout the season. Fulham are basically safe and have utterly given up to the point its embarrassing, but other teams are picking up "free points" of a team that isn't actually competing anymore. Lets say Newcastle go down, and assume they lost to Fulham while Fulham were actually playing football, and after they "got safe" Fulham lost without even trying to the team that wins against Fulham in the last game of the season to put Newcastle down... its a joke.

I think the guys who come bottom need to be getting almost nothing, and the gap between amount people win needs to be hugely bigger... but maybe the gap only expands outside of the European places(so the guys with other incomes don't get more than the do currently), so coming 9th instead of 18th is worth 20m+ rather than 5mil.

I want them to go down simply because of the disgraceful way Martinez has managed Angelo Henriquez on loan from United.

He's got a selection of crap strikers, weve lent him a player that's scored more professional goals in 18 months than than one of his strikers has scored in the last 5 years I think it is, and he's not even picked him to sit on the bench.

Indeed.

It also annoys me how he's linked with bigger jobs in the league, he's not a particularly good manager in my eyes, Wigan always seem to be in a relegation battle or just scraping out of it, yet he's touted as a manger that lots of clubs want!

dembele and lennon doubtful

parker was out on saturday and not sure if he's back. we could end up with a cm of hudd and carroll. now, i think carroll is a prospect but he'll get slaughtered in a game like this i should think.

I think for the first time since the EPL started, im actually rooting for Chelsea to win :/. Absolutely loathe saying that but them beating Spurs isnt a bad thing for Arsenal especially, moreso in the race for 3rd and 4th spot now.

So uhhh yeh come on Chelsea :p

Anything that makes Arsenal get the CL spot with only need a win against Wigan will do for me.

Then hopefully they can relax on the last game of the season against us. And we can finish on a high *prays*
