Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4th - 10th May 2017]

You keep changing your point. Are you talking about his corners or his general play? Of course he's crap, I've been saying that all year. But this is our second string and he's very much our second string. If Jose doesn't sell him in the summer i'd be very surprised.

Wow. I'm talking about his corners. My point has not changed, so stop trying to change it. He shouldn't be near the pitch, corners or anything else. Does that cover all of it?

Not too disappointed with that, we knew we were resting players for Thursday. I'd rather we played a bit more offensively but Tuanzebe played well. We should have done this weeks ago and focussed on Europa really.

Saying he shouldn't be taking corners and saying he shouldn't be on the pitch are two separate things. Decide which one you want to actually discuss.

Corners wise who on the pitch is better? Recently we've had Rashford taking them (didn't start, hasn't been good at them anyway) In the past we've had Blind (didn't start) and Mata (who wasn't great at them either) We just don't have a good corner taker, nor do we have good players at scoring from corners with no Ibra.

Regardless of my bias Rooney has been dog **** for utd for years and he has for England, he is however fa golden boy until he is dropped completely he will hold utd and England back

Riskier trying to get fourth and win Europa with the squad size we have and the injuries we've had due to overplaying people recently.

totally disagree you had two routes into Europe now you've probably thrown one of them away leaving all your hopes on the Europa

put all your eggs in one basket

Shame we didn't really make an effort but in the current situation we do need to prioritise the Europa League, winning that will make the season a success (even though it shouldn't be).

Annoying to lose though especially to Arsenal!

Better than trying to juggle eggs and just ending up with a mess everywhere. Players like Bailly, Pogba and Valencia have been playing 180 mins a week, if not more for weeks. We've already had injuries to big players we can't afford any more.

Of course it would be hilarious if today's result sees Wenger stay, that would be almost worth it :D

Because we've rested Pogba and now Herrera, how hard is that to understand?

It's hard to understand because, you're putting on someone out there who is both awful, won't get better, will leave the club at some point and you've got a full reserve and youth squads to pick from. I honestly can't see how some 17-18yr old who looks promising would be worse than Rooney, it's experience for the kid and maybe they'll shine.. with Rooney he's crap but there is no upside to playing him.

Rooney was hilariously bad throughout, Utd were hilariously bad throughout, somehow we only got going through a fluke goal, got one more goal very soon after then weather a tiny bit of utd half pretending to try to play football.

Two completely awful games today, would have been better to get an extra 4 hours sleep in.

Result that ultimately means nothing, but still pleased for Wenger to finally get that league win against Jose.

You can keep saying that I've changed by point, but ultimately I didn't. The end result is he shouldn't be taking corners (I'd go with Mata, even JONES), playing, or in the squad. And to be quite honest, I'd put an academy player in over him. So doesn't really matter who we rest.

Why is Rooney even near the field, let alone taking corners. He is utterly **** poor.
Fair enough, but we'll have to agree to disagree. He's woeful and does more damage than good.
To put it simply, because we still have better corner takers. That's why? Is that hard to understand?

All regarding his corners. And yes, he can do damage from his poor corners, maybe I should've been clearer. Either way...all roads point him being crap.

Precisely.

Disagree. Potential upside is Jose showing the fanbase that Rooney isn't needed any more. He clearly wants to get rid of him in the summer.

If we had Fosu Mensah fit I'm sure he would have played but we don't and I don't think we have many other youngsters who are ready to play in a big game.

Robert. you keep changing as to whether we're talking about Rooney not playing or Rooney not taking corners. Stop switching between them and decide which.

To be fair we still have Spurs to play (away) next weekend, that wont be easy (probably harder than today) so top four by the league was always going to be hard given how many draws we have had, especially with the last two

After we won away on Thursday it was always likely Jose would concerntrate on that route

The team they put out today cost well over £200m - hardly putting all their hopes on the Europa.

You know how meaningless that is right? How is Rooney still worth anything like the 27m paid 12 years ago or whatever

(I'm not sure Mata was worth the ~£40m paid given his performance today either but as he is coming back from injury so I will go easy)

Its just such a daft expression when anyone says that kind of thing
