Every player just looks so much better under Emery. Not sure exactly what it was but suspect terrible training. If you look up an interview about Garry Peyton from Chesny and Flapihanski, well, Peyton is just not a proper coach. He's just a guy who happened to have the job and the fact he sucked wasn't remedied under Wenger even though every keeper got so obviously worse on joining us AND improved when leaving.
I suspect more than anything is that Wenger just never changed things up but as with any training, the more you do the exact same type of training the less beneficial it is. You need to change things up to keep things fresh and that is what Arsenal looked, stale, for years, with zero changes.
Old Arsenal would have started poorly gone behind and gone to pieces. WE obviously still might lose, it's still a big game where mentality as much as anything else comes into it but being fresher and more optimistic as the side clearly is, helps on that side.
