Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [4th - 6th November 2016]

What?

Kos is the player closest to him and the player the ball was directly going to. If Wimmer doesn't head that then Kos is. The 2 players who were in offside positions haven't made a difference to Wimmer's decision.

maybe Im mis-remembering , but thought Kos was actually on Wimmer's right / far shoulder - rather than actually having a clear shot behind him like the other two did

It seemed to me the other two had an "easier" shot if the ball had been left , thats how Ive got it in my head anyway from the MOTD replay

No. One of the offside players had run completely across the flight of the ball and would have never got on the end of the cross and the other (Sanchez I think) was further back behind Koscielny. Koscielny is the one closest to Wimmer, that's directly in line with the ball and you can even see him beginning the movement of heading the ball should Wimmer not do so.

The two offside players make no difference to the outcome. Wimmer still has to head the ball to stop Koscielny from scoring.

Looking at it just now, it looks like Kos is too far under the flight of the ball / jumped a little too early and its Sanchez? way behind that can run forward , or across the goal, to knock it in or the other player closest to goal but even that might be awkward with Kos and that 3rd player potentially getting in each other's way

Either way I still think Sanchez and potentially...Mustafi? are interfering with play and forcing Wimmer into playing the ball

Its very difficult to know the exact flight of the ball, exactly where Kos would have been had wimmer left it, so can see how you are saying it would have played out, just not convinced it would have.:)

I'm not sure what you're talking about now Frank - he's directly in line with Wimmer and the ball. That's neither here nor there though - Wimmer's made his decision because he knows Koscielny is behind him. He doesn't know whether he's going to get on the end of the ball or not but he's not going to take any chances. Sanchez being offside has effected nothing (I highly doubt he's aware of Sanchez at all), it's Koscielny that's forced Wimmer's hand.

I was just look at your upcoming fixtures, there's no reason why you shouldn't be top at New Year too.
Southampton away and Man.C. at home are the only ones you might struggle with.
