Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [5 - 6th October 2013]

Tough situation for Utd, anything short of a resounding thumping and the daggers will be out again - even though last season Fergie breeezed the PL by grinding out wins on countless occasions while looking sub-standard.

Need to keep with the pack now that Liverpool are back to winning ways and Arsenal streaming ahead. Sorry, but it makes a nice health change for so many team competing without the obvious candidates, although it's early days.

I can only really echo this. I think it's imperative we keep the pace and if we do I'm sure we'll be up there come the end of the season. We've got a big squad and so as long as we keep the rotation up players shouldn't be getting too worn down.

Liverpool and Arsenal don't quite have the strength in depth we have I don't think and so that may be a bonus for us. But on the other hand Liverpool don't have European football to play in so they're not quite as stretched. It may therefore be a little more of a struggle just after crimbo for Arsenal, but I'm not yet willing to underestimate the impact Ozil could have in spurring the rest of the squad on.

Of course Everton and Chelsea are up there too and City not too far behind. So it just goes to show keeping pace is everything because it could only take a loss and maybe a draw for any of these clubs to find themselves sitting outside the top 4. No doubt United will up their game as well and rejoin the group.

Big game for Moyes.

No bigger than any of the others he's had. If he doesn't win or loses what difference would it make he's already lost at home to wba and also lost to city and Liverpool to give us our worst start in 20 odd years. How much worse could it get before corrective action should be taken?

Do you think he should be sacked then, genuinely?

I agree that some signs are far from encouraging (team selection, some comments, etc), but he needs more time. This was always a likely situation with a difficult start to the season, even with SAF I wouldn't have been confident of us doing much better up to this point, WBA aside.

The main thing he needs to realise is that he needs to be more attacking/positive, use Carrick and Fellaini as more holding players if necessary and then let the likes of Nani/Kagawa/Januzaj/Zaha/Rooney get plenty of starts and I'm sure they'll do a far better job going forward from midfield than Welbeck and Valencia.

Everton have really impressed me so far. Lukaku looks awesome. What have Chelsea missed? and Baines is steadfast as ever.

I know its early and this sounds very reactionist but yes. Though I don't think he should have been given the job initially.

I'm looking for any redeeming features like a sexy style of football or a good defence or an ability to win tough games but not look pretty. He hasn't shown any of this at all.

We should be playing an attractive style in effect we have the funds and ability to fund the players who can make that kind of football work.

Counterattacking is a part of how we should be playing but we cannot be a soley counter attacking team. Besides we don't have the pace or players who can run forward. Moyes doesn't have a style he just puts the players out there and hopes for the best as far as I can see.

And im sorry but it's all gone down like I said it would. He has no profile , he doesn't know the good players and he doesn't have any relationship with them. Keeps playing a flat footed valencia. I said all this before we got him.

Did you not die a little bit inside when you saw fellaini sliding tackling himself to keep the ball on Wednesday but then he lost it anyway to someone half his sise?

He was awful all of last season, looks to have improved a bit this season though although still a bit of an accident waiting to happen.

Going to Spurs vs. West Ham and Fulham vs. Stoke this weekend. Hopefully Jol will realise that this is his last game in charge and play a front three of Berbatov, Ruiz and Taraabt. :p

Time for Jenkinson to step up then. Prefer him to Sagna anyway.

Yep id rather Jenks start than Sagna, even though Sagna has been pretty decent this season but hes still prone to the stupid error.

Think Wenger will definitely have to spend some more money in Jan as we do need some more defensive cover. Midfield we are sorted with Ozil, Ramsey, Flamini, Wilshere, Arteta and Cazorla all fighting for places plus we still have Pod and Ox to come back. Still think we need to sign a striker/forward just to be on the safe side in case Giroud gets injured. Dont like the notion of relying on the last Samurai to get our goals if Giroud is ruled out for a lengthy time.

2 x Arteta! You missed out Podolski and Ox too. Our midfield is ridiculously strong at the mo. If Giroud gets a knock we are in big trouble though, that has to be the priority in the window. Then some defensive cover.

And again, who do you think would take the job, even if it was at the end of this season?

Martin ON?
Redknapp?
Laudrup?
Martinez?

I can't think of anyone that is truely top drawer that might be interested in the job with the shadow of fergie still large.

People are deluded when they think Jose or a pep was ever going to go to united.

Who do you want? Please for once answer the question? Who did you want before moyes and who do you think you should have it should he get the sack.

Given that you seem to be more privy as to who's available and who would or wouldn't reject us, why don't you give me a reasonable shortlist and I'll take it from there.

I'm off to the lane Sunday.. I thought it was a 12:45 KO. That would have been embarrassing :D

If he loses this one it may be his last. :p
