If we make it out of this with a win it will be a shock. If we make it out of this with a draw we will have been very lucky.

No idea why we insist on passing it around at the back?????

I get the idea of possession football but surely it's all about assessing risk? Are there stats or something that say losing it in midfield after hoofing it out leads to more conceding opportunities or something?
 
You can't play with 5 at the back if the wing backs offer no support going forwards either. Southampton know that they don't have to defend in numbers because the most they will ever face is Rooney, RvP and Herrera with absolutely no backup.

I think it's more trying to draw Southampton onto us to open up space in the MF.

They are closing everything down too quickly so he's trying to open space in the middle (I assume) It's risky but they're closing us down too well.
