Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [9th - 13th September 2011]

****** off about Cleverley, he reckons he's broken his foot, after Davies comments in the press this week the ref should have sent him off if not for that one on Cleverley then for the one on Evra

Good news that its not as bad as first thought - and he should only be out for about a month (long enough of course, but could have been far worse).

That central midfield place will be be his nailed on by the end of the season imo if he continues the way he has started (as apposed to thinking about buying anyone else)

Don't you hate it when you miss a good game? I was planning on watching the Inter Milan game but got caught up watching all the 9/11 shows.

Thank god for the internet. The last two Palermo goals :eek::eek:

Forlans goal. Wesley Sniejder. :( What an amazing ball.

How can anyone be mad about that Kevin Davies challenge on Cleverly?

Yes, of course it is unfortunate that the lad got injured, but it wasn't malicious.

Norwich cheated out of that game. The West Brom defence knew they were too ***** to deal with the physical presence of Norwich's forwards(Holt in particular) and ruthlessly fouled their way to victory..

That's fair, given that it's the only way Holt himself knows how to play.

It was a poor tackle that was no where near the ball (some would argue from behind as well) from a player who before the game openly stated he was going to rough up DDG and Jones

Davies may not of gone in wanting to break his foot but he certainly went in to rough him up as did Robinson on Jones before that

Some might argue from behind, but it wasn't.

Tough tackling is fine. It wasn't Ben Thatcher or Roy Keane by any stretch.

But when you state your intent is to "rough them up" then you go out and promptly injure someone seriously it's no surprise people point out what a useless **** he is. He went out to hurt someone and he did, at least Coyles Cloggers achieved something in 90 minutes

Did he go out to hurt someone?

Roughing someone up and intentionally injuring them are completely different things.

At one end of that spectrum you have the likes of Davies. At the other end you have Thatcher and Keane.

Bolton were deliberately trying to 'rough us up' (it was painfully obvious to anyone that was watching) and injured people because of it. Tossers.

Perhaps, perhaps not.

But he certainly made it clear he was out there to be deliberately physical and then he injures someone.

One tends to follow the other and this time it once again did. He acted like a thug because he isn't good enough so we shouldnt be too shocked at the results.

Given Arsenal's disciplinary record over the last couple of years, do Arsenal fans have a right to moan about the likes of Bolton anymore?

Probably not, we've become increasingly dirty and foul happy, but some of our red cards are for stupid things, the Gervinho slap, Frimpong making two terrible tackles, Song's completely unnecessary stamp spring to mind. Wasn't Koscielny sent off for a handball last year as well?

So Frimpong nearly breaking Lucas's leg was just a stupid thing? I've seen Arsenal fans label opposition players thugs for far less than that.

And Kos got a 2nd booking for handball vs Liverpool last season, he should have been sent off earlier though for sliding through the back of Torres when he was breaking forward.

This is Wenger's Arsenal, probably his attempt to put a new Vieira in the squad, however, we're just becoming petty and vindictive. Its the way we're going, Nasri was getting petty and stupid last year, hacking someone or a trip rather than tracking back and Rosicky's the same, constantly hacks people down now. I think a large amount of it is quite simply that we get caught out of position so frequently we don't have a whole lot of choice but to do the cynical tackles to stop attacks.

Kos is prone to rushing out with silly tackles, Song and frimpong are just red cards waiting to happen. Rosicky is getting increasingly worrying and, I know its WAY to early and I haven't seen him enough at all but I can forsee his absolute lack of pace resulting in more than one very late tackle. Wilshire isn't malicious, just very over enthusiastic sometimes, and pretty close to a red card on many occasions already.

I don't think and haven't thought for some time that Arsenal can complain about other players in terms of red cards and fouling. Being fairly physical is one thing, but its not bad, but fouling and bad tackles are the only thing thats bad.......... and Arsenal are pretty bad with that lately.

Tough tackling is fine as long as you go in to win the ball, Davies was never going to win the ball though so it was a blatant foul and attempt to rough up Cleverley and he succeeded by injuring him

There's not even a debate to have on it tbh

There is, else we wouldn't be having one.

I object to the sensationalism attributed to the tackle. 99 times out of 100 that wouldn't result in any injury whatsoever.

Regardless of the chances of that particular challenge causing injury or not is irrelevant, Davies was never going to win the ball so it was a blatant foul which purpose was to do exactly what the player said he was going to do in the papers the morning of the game - rough up our players

It wasn't an example of tough tackling it was an example of of kicking the **** out of our players and by doing that there's always a chance of causing injury, Davies should have seen yellow for that tackle and then another (if not a straight red) when he went studs up on Evra about 10 minutes later
