Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [Sunday 13th May 2012]

Since when does history dictate who is the underdog?

I would guess that manyoo will be the underdogs this coming season - as I expect that City will be favourites for the title. Might be wrong, but even if I am it will be very close..

Given how successful Utd have been over the EPL era so far, I think "history" dictates a lot

If we were comparing Blackburn to City.....or even Chelsea or Arsenal, then it would be fair to say they are the under dogs currently.

60% of the EPL titles have gone to one team (and evenly spread into the bargain) , so one title means squat in comparison.

Chelsea have proved that having endless amounts of cash available doesnt always mean the be-all and end -all

Considering that he's done very little wrong on the face of it, and his performances either side of him being away from the game, I'd expect most teams would start him in front of all but the very best strikers.

I think majority of fans (whether City or not) would disagree on that considering what happened during the early /mid part of the season and how he acted during it

Not wanting to cause a reaction, a genuine question, is it just sour grapes? It's obvious he's not actually willing death upon his former manager, what's the actual problem?

Every one of the Utd fans (as far as I recall) who has posted here today (and many others) said "well done" to City last Sunday in this thread - so no I dont believe its "sour grapes"

The fact Man City were so fast to issue a sincere apology says it all really.
Exactly

given the deaths and near deaths we've had in football lately it shouldn't take too many brain cells to work out that holding an rip banner at one of the oldest managers in the league is a bit tasteless...

What are you going on about?

Check the odds out at the start of the season, see who the underdogs are.

Who has won in the past doesn't matter, Leeds won it more recently than Liverpool, are they more likely to win it next season?

OK, it was an honest question. I wasn't having a go at all. It just looks that way from outside given that no other fans see a problem with it.

You'd usually split the neutrals either way in such an episode, whereas that's not what has happened here.

Not for me, there's always someone to support when they're on, but a lot of people don't care either way?

Mates that are Barnsley or Town fans don't care either way about the Manchester divide.

But surely it's a play on when Fergie said 'they won't win the league while I'm about' or whatever he said. It's not talking about him dying, it's teasing him for making such an outlandish statement. Nothing to do with his actual death, more to do with that arrogant statement.

As for Man Utd fans, you assume that people think you're really important etc. but a lot of people do not care a bit, and the arrogance is what people do not like, not the club.

The sign was a bit stupid and nothing more. City apologised and United accepted and everyone moved on quite quickly. It was moronic of Tevez to then come out and undermine his own club by saying Sir Alex didn't deserve an apology. Keeping your mouth shut would have been the better idea.

The arrogance of who? The supporters? The manager? The players?

I only ask the question because the stick Fergie gets and the stick Rooney gets it certainly seems it a club wide hate people have rather than just one or two things.

The supporters really with all the ABU stuff and you saying there are no neutrals when it comes to Man Utd, and general arrogance. My feelings for Man Utd the club are summed up by this gif ¬_¬

Didn't mind one tiny bit if Utd or City won the title, over the course of the afternoon I switched from wanting City to win, to Utd about 4 times, sheerly for the entertainment stakes.

I don't mind Ferguson, he's an arse, but any successful manager will be an arse a few times per season. Rooney, again, bit of a moron and I don't like the elbows and the off the ball stuff he does, but meh, not the worst footballer around.

SAF gets very little stick, just like most of the other British managers who have been around the block. Harry is a media Darling, O'Neil and Moyes get respect. If it was Mancini who let an 8 point gap disappear with about 6 games to go he would have been hounded by the media like no tomorrow. Yes Fergie gets stick from opposing teams fans but that's because Utd are successful, regardless other fans love to hate other clubs it's in the DNA of supporting a team.

Rooney brings it upon himself, world cup 2010 being just one example, although he seems to of matured lately. Just like John Terry, and Cashly Cole critism is somewhat deserved. Players like Kompany, Paul Scholes and Joe Hart are an example of how to behave and get respect from other teams fans. As a Spurs fan it's hard not to like Kompany, and even Mancini.

+1 pretty much my sentiments. Will be interesting to see if City get rid of him in the summer.

I really, really like Kompany, a footballer who is actually interesting in post match interviews. I'm just slightly worried that he's the first, does that say more about me or footballers

Of course it matters. It shows Fergie / Utd can compete toe to toe against anyone, whether its Arsneal, Blackburn, Chelsea or whoever else (even Liverpool's millions $ :))

there is a huge diffeence between 18 points (the difference between City and Utd last season) / 2 league places - and however many league places between Leeds and Liverpool

Didnt mean to imply you were having a go

Laughs - well considering the hatred for Utd, here and in general, it isnt THAT surprising. (there arent as many "neutrals" as you want to imply in matters vs Utd lol)

There's also a big difference between being the favourite and no-one else having a chance of winning.

I've got City down as favourites for next seasons title (depending on who buys which player) but that doesn't mean they're the only team in the running...

I'm strictly a neutral when it comes to the title race, didn't fancy a London club and not really a fan of how city spent their way to a title but that's my personal opinion. Chelsea/aresenal fans would probably accuse me of being a closet man utd fan but I'm a fan of good football, whoever is playing.

That being said, us neutrals do get sick of being called biased against whichever team who is being argued as superior to all others when we don't agree with what they are saying. It's mainly man utd fans who accuse you of being anti utd just because we don't all think the sun shines out of fergies arse.

Tevez shouldn't have held up the rip fergie sign but it was done in jest. We all know he's a prat look at the whole self imposed isolation this season.

Fergie was wrong to say that City would never win the title in his lifetime, it was petty and unprofessional and bound to cause a reaction.

If we start getting into playground rules of my friend said this but your friend said that we might aswell go listen to Stan Collymore about how the world revolves around Aston Villa

FT Juventus 0 Napoli 2. Unfortunately Del Piero couldnt cap of this last game with Juventus with a trophy. Still been a great player and great to see Juventus back in the Champions League.
