‘Groundbreaking’ flights six-times faster than speed of sound one step closer..

We have heard it all before, and even if it comes to fruition, it will be years before it is implemented in commercial aviation.

Yeah, most of these sorts of things die because they're not actually commercially viable.

I keep seeing this video circulated on Reddit about how the Japanese have harness the power of walking to get free energy...no they didn't - it wasn't commercialy viable.

Call me dumb but aren't these flights gonna be stressful on the passengers?

I mean I get excited taking off in an a320.

Going upto Mach 6 isn't that going to be a strain, and it would have to be pretty verticle too... No?

Lol

G-Force innit. You can go a billion miles an hour and not notice it, it's the acceleration that gets you. As long as it's slow and steady you've got nothing to worry about.

I do wonder what hitting a bird at mach 6 will do :D

I imagine the real problem with something like this, will be the cost of keeping it in the air safely - whilst making a profit.

Ages ago I did some work down at British Airways and went into the hangars there, ended up speaking with some of the techs who used to look after Concorde back in the day. Apparently it was a nightmare to keep in the sky due to the insane amounts of specialist maintenance it needed. It needed to be x-rayed, stripped - everything, way more than any other aircraft, which cost a fortune.

With stuff like the Airbus and Boeings, they have standard service schedules etc, etc - but the Concorde, everything was bespoke and 10x more expensive..
