Group of lads jumped on my new car last night

Definitely follow this up with the Police OP, you know where the car resides, there is potential for CCTV through a FOI request with Co-op. Don't let them get away with it.

My anxiety would be through the roof parking outside either way now and I would be looking into making my garage useable if I were you.

Lovely car by the way.

I just hope the camera does the trick

Would just leave it. It’s annoying but no damage was done and you have taken steps to catch them if something happens again. I don’t think the police will do anything apart from a slap on the wrist so hardly seems worth the potential retaliation.

Maybe add a motion sensor light over the drive, my dad was broken into years ago and the police advised a light over the door. They said anyone up to something will just walk away when the light comes on as there are plenty of other targets for them.

I definitely wouldn’t leave it. Even if the police don’t prosecute, hopefully they will at least ask questions and make them think again

In this day and age you have to take matters into your own hands. Police won't care.

Unless the police catch you, in which case they'll come down harder on you than they would on the original perpetrators.

What good is confronting them in person going to do? I mean if you're very assertive and can handle yourself sure but I can't imagine they're going to listen carefully as OP gives them a stern telling off? Worst comes to worst they start jumping up and down on him rather than his car and then that's all over TikTok too.

As much as they are scum, confronting these sorts of people is a pointless exercise, their first resort will be violence as they clearly lack the ability to think things through.

People say the police don't do anything but a teenage girl was arrested after keying 30 cars in my parent's street. I don't know if she ended up getting convicted but they did find who it was.

Sexist police m8, can't trust dem, pigs etc etc

OP, if you want to take it further go through the police, definitely don't try to 1v1 them in real life unless you're comfortable with things getting physical.

Nip it in the bud,I had a similar thing a while back, some chavs were throwing sticks at my car from the waste ground next to my house, so I shouted at them and got the “what are you going to do about it” routine,I walked around to where they were with my two German shepherds and asked if they wanted to make something of it which shut them up pretty quickly - might have been the dogs, my size or a combination of the two, that night, chavs dad knocked on the door with him in tow, made him apologise and thanked me for not setting the dogs on his son (I wouldn’t have done, but he didn’t know that)

I now get on well with chavs dad and chav is no longer a chav, he seems to have grown up and found some better friends.

Is it parked on a driveway? Your OP doesn't make it clear when you say you installed a Nest camera covering off the driveway?

Yeah driveway, I'm going to get some quotes to see how much extending the garage will cost. There's dead space to the side anyway which should be put to use.
It's something I've wanted to do for years anyway.

Just to play "devils advocate" for a second - Even a 7 year old "jumping up and down" on a modern car WILL damage it and leave shoe prints on it never mind an adult.

Are you absolutely sure that someone has jumped on your car (any footprints, dents, scuffs etc) and that your neighbour hasn't made a mistake and seen the guy stood on the top of the tyres, rather than on the car body?

A teenage girl is quite a different prospect to potentially violent lads and their mates.

Do you live in a rough area OP? Either way the people who did this are utter scummers.

Agreed with others, I've had quite a few encounters with the Police in recent years and they are so useless that is not worth bothering. If they even turn up they will just ask the neighbours if they saw anything and if there is any CCTV. If not, case closed.

They closed a case for me not long back with 2 witnesses and cctv footage as 'insufficient evidence'. The officer who attended to collect my footage also knew the offender.
