*bump*
Getting to the end of the summer growing season now, how's everyone been getting on?
Courgettes were as usual a runaway success, we gave quite a few away to friends & neighbours. First time growing yellow ones as well as green and they're very tasty and much easier to spot on the plant.
Cucumber did pretty well outside on a trellis. Would probably grow bigger more quickly if they were in a greenhouse.
Tomatoes were a mixed bunch.
The hanging basket ones gave pretty small fruit from some dissapointingly small plants. Next time I'll give them a go upside down.
Cherry toms were very good, lots of them and tasty. They seemed to ripen a bit late (we're still getting them now) but again, in a greenhouse the'd probably do better.
Regular toms were poor, I don't think my experiment with the pot+growbag planting went very well
My best year for potatoes so far though. Charlottes gave planty of good sized spuds. They were all up by mid August and I've still got 3 or 4 kilos left in the bag. King Edwards were disaponting to start with with small tubers and quite a few eaten by woodlice, but hardly any slug damage this year. The 2nd & 3rd rows were much better though with some good sizes and little damage. Took 5kg on saturday and probably the same again yet to be dug. Probably 15 kilos in total from a totally unfed patch of earth so I'll be getting a good load of manure for them for next year.
Onions from seed did badly as I think I got my timing a bit out. I've got a few dozen small ones for pickling but nothing more.
Leeks are in place and seem to be going well with another 30odd in a window box to be grown a baby leeks.
All my cabbages & sprouts got eaten by something about a month ago
