Nope, the onus is on the retailer to prove if wasn't faulty. Canon has nothing to do with it as it wasn't purchased from them.
 
Whatever you do don't stop complaining to Canon if it is actually their responsibility to sort out. Take it higher and higher up the food chain, £100 to them is nothing and the potential profit and revenue they will make from you will far surpass that over time.
