grrrrrr ebay

yeah, as above, you can't blame the seller for you getting picked up by customs!
saying he had the original box and then sending it out in bubble wrap is utter gash though

Yep its working, going to let it run for a while and do some tests to be sure its fine. It's running around 10 degrees hotter than two other gtx 570's I owned before though. Could be the factory oc (but voltage is low) or maybe the heatsink isn't seated properly.

You are a brave man, I don't think I would buy a graphics card off ebay, let alone from another country.

No way that's happened in transit, it's been sent out like that.

I reckon it could have happened in transit. Parcelforce managed to bend a Steel bike Frame (and they still wouldn't refund me).
I guess maybe if something heavy is put on top of it and the packaging wasn't up to scratch.

However it would take a lot of force to bend that, if I were the OP I would try and get a Re-Fund.

Not much chance of getting postage and customs tax refunded as well though. If its working ok I would just accept the partial refund and buy a new bracket with the money.

+1 the only time i have ever bought off of ebay form another country is from ebay shops, new items, 2nd hand a no no.

Yeh also any tech brought from the USA gets hit by import TAX especially if its over £50. Too much hassle tbh.

also means no warranty and hard to return,

OCUK all the way (im not sucking up honest....)

Only reason I'd buy from USA would be for cheap EVGA cards :D

It does work

Import tax starts on goods £130 & over

From HMRC:

If you order or send purchased goods other than alcohol, tobacco, perfume and toilet water from a country outside the EU then you:

  • don't have to pay Excise Duty
  • may have to pay Customs Duty on goods with a value that exceeds £135
  • will have to pay import VAT on goods with a value that exceeds £15
Note that on all goods from outside the EU, Customs Duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is £9 or under.

First off, it CAN happen during transit if there is not box around it?
Secondly, it's not the senders fault the buyer needs to pay tax for importing. A workaround is to ask if the seller wants to put the value on the box as 25 dollar... works every time I do it here in the Netherlands...
Just use some pliers and straighten it out, I've done it before and it was no problem :)

Good luck with whatever you are going to do with this, but it is the risk of ebay...

I asked about the value declaration.

I wouldn't have minded in the slightest if the card arrived in its original box and in working condition like expected.

no box + damaged card is reason to be angry about everything.. including being charged customs!

He probably sent it as card only to save postage. I paid 30$ shipping, the stamp says 20$.

Heres a picture of the card installed now. http://i46.tinypic.com/552f5y.jpg

Still doesn't go into the slot fully and can't get the top screw in but it works. First it wouldn't go in at all, then I managed to get it to run at pci 1.1 , after another while it would finally run pci 2.2 ( No performance difference in heaven benchmark btw, exact same fps). The bracket was very misshapen, not simply folded over.

I would say leave t stress testing at stock speeds for a couple of hours and keep constant check of temps.

If all seems good then yeh pluss if he is giving u a partial refund due to damage then its all good.
