** GT REPLACEMENT - Watercooling Optimised Fan **

Sounds good, I need 4 more fans.....
If the price & performance sound good i'm in :D

I am aiming to get it sub £10 per fan.

Most of us seem to consider the Piranha to be a pretty good rad/heastink fan and it operates at the same kind of RPM range as the GT1850/SST-FQ121.

Might as well bung it in the test to clear up the situation :)

i dont. use a SP fan compared to this and its night and day.

the pirhana is good for heatsinks but being good for HSF use and being good for low FPI rads are two different things.

they are more a heatsink fan than a case fan though.

we have shipped a load of FQ121 so hopefully we will see some end user feedback here.

I have done loads of testing myself but realistically we dont have the capabilities to test every fan on the market. just the primary competitors.

Reason being is that i have been doing it in my own time on my own equipment meaning the fans i am testing against are my own as well.

I cant just go and spend £20+ on three fans each time someone suggests an alternative.

this way at least we are just pitting the FQ121 against the established WC orientated fans.

ah yeah its a pita, the bundle deal just says in stock because the bundle isnt a physical item.

I know its misleading but there is no way around it. a bundle doesnt have a stock figure so it just says in stock. :(

sorry for the inconvenience. we are expecting the fans to land any day now.

really sorry about that, I should have mentioned it in the thread but it slipped my mind.

in honesty, I wasnt expecting the uptake on our current stock to be so high as well.

I have fiddled around with our system and managed to make stock figure work on the bundles now so it is showing as an OOS item.

again, apologies it wasnt more clear for you both at the time of ordering

So these special editions wouldn't be much good on AIO high FPI rads, such as the h100i?

Any ideas on static pressures?

who said that?

it would be decent on a H100i. the Static Pressure is in the OP

It will work with all radiators and heatsinks but will be ideal for thick, low FPI custom WC radiators.

they are ideal for lower FPI rads. but that doesnt mean they dont work with denser finned rads.

The ones I have on the way are the same as the white and blue version at 100% speed all the time.

very few watercoolers use PWM and instead have their system ran by smart controllers meaning that PWM is pointless.

depends what fans you have currently. if you have decent static pressure fans, you wont see a big difference.

the rjkoneill specials are on the way to me in a few days...

I will update when they arrive with some images and some information.

whats the order number? have you contacted the CS guys?

the samples landed yesterday. Given them a go and they seem to be exactly what I have asked for.

initial impressions:
- the build quality is very good for the price they will be.
- cables on the samples arent final, they will be black
- i have also asked for black three pin connectors too
- sound output is quite low considering the amount of air they put out.
- put on a rad with a gentle typhoon, the fan pushes a little less air through the fins in honesty.
- the fan is about the same volume as a 1850 gt.
- the fan needs a fan controller to get the most out of it.

im trying to make it so they appeal to the maximum number of people possible.

black fans are the cheapest to make
these are obviously a bit dearer due to the PBT plastic on the blades

what i wanted was something easy to work with and easy to mod.

for anyone looking to mod these, the blades just pop off really easily by the way so you can spray the frames and blades with minimal fuss.

Do a performance test and I'm sure you'll get a ton of interest. :)

dont really need to. they perform within a few degrees of GT fans on the same radiator.

I am ordering them today but have no idea on ETA yet, will need to speak to silverstone.

Ordered the 3 fan bundle and it is showing as pre-order on the item page without a expected arrival date. Anyone know when this is likely to be?

Any chance that OC will send me 3 of the 10 single fans they have in stock?

derp, my bad. left the pre order box ticked on the product.

i will sort it now. you will get three single fans.

OK Guys

Some good news and some bad news

The good news:
The FQ121WC Fans have been ordered this morning after we have finalised the specification and pricing. I am happy with our samples and performance is exactly where it needs to be.

The bad news:
Obviously with this being a custom production run for a product that Silverstone don't normally offer, there is a lead time due to production of around 6-8 weeks. alongside the shipping time etc, it is looking like the product will be with us around Christmas time.

I will start a pre order deal thread closer to the time when I have a more firm ETA from Silverstone. as it stands now, It would be unfair of me to start taking orders this far in advance without knowing a proper ETA or accounting for further delays.

The price of the fan is going to be around £9.95. This will be obviously a little more expensive than the Silverstone fan in the OP of this thread but that is the price of customising the product and it not being produced in the same sort of quantities as their mass produced retail model.

obviously if this is a massive success then we can do a larger repeat order and bring the price down a little, but this is a nice product really so in order to do that it needs to be a success in the first place.

The product will be exclusive to OcUK.

I will run a pre order discount on the product when it goes live for a few weeks to give early adopters a price advantage and encourage some end user adoption and feedback.
