Doesnt look like there was as many dissapointed people as I expected, I however thought the game was as expected along side all the hype.

Maybe we should start another poll to see how people actually rate the game rather than how is lives up to their expectations.

We could use the 1up rating system for the purposes of the poll.

Excellent = A
Very Good = B
Good = C
Poor = D
Dire = E

Defo better than i expected. There was a lot of improvements on the physics of the game which is a giant leap for the GTA games in my eyes, dont forget this is the first one on the new platforms and so we can expect the next gta to show us what the consoles are really capable of for the digital criminal world. i myself though thoroughly enjoed gta4 with a passion, still not completed it as the weather has been too nice to stay in for the past couple of weeks but when the weather starts to ditterierate then i will complete it ;)

I've been thinking about this quite a bit recently, what does everyone else reckon? In terms of actual mechanics and controls, GTAIV is a vast improvement over its predecessors, the cover mechanic, while not as good as some games that are solely 3rd person shooters, is a huge improvement over the clunky unresponsive mechanicsms the previous games employed.

The city itself seems to be more alive than its predecessors, with people everywhere taking part in different activities. Ok there were lots of people in the previous ones, but the attention to detail in NPCs actions in IV are well in advance of the last gen games. I recall stopping next to some roadworks, a guy with a pickaxe working away then stops to stretch his back, after a few seconds the foreman turns around and starts yelling at him, attention to detail like that just wasn't there previously.

What was lacking was the game you played within this well developed world. It seems R* have put far more effort this time around into creating the world you exist within and less into making you feel a part of it. But is this a surprise? Not to me it isn't, with san andreas and vice city the largest task with these games had already been completed previously, creating the game engine, because of this they were able to spend more time creating content as there was less time needed to build the core parts. GTAIV feels a lot more like GTAIII than any of the other previous gen titles, this makes sense as their roles were identical, the first games to showcase the latest GTA engine and recoup the costs of creating it.

GTAIV, while a step back in terms of content, is a huge leap forward for the gameplay and the world in which you are involved. It is because of the pattern observed in the previous generation titles and the strengths that GTAIV has gained that i feel the next games on this generation will be very exciting indeed.

Whats the point of the lovely detailed scenary if you can only see it clearly from a stand still. I would so much rather they cut back on the detail and lighting to up the framerate.

I really haven't had a problem with the framerate at all, its low yes but it's consistent. This is coming from an ex PC gamer that used to feel a high framerate was everything.

Those have been my main opinions on the game. When people moan about how much is missing from GTAIV, the large game world (I honestly don't think GTAIV is small, it's just not enormous) and silly mini games for exercise that people (for some reason) seemed to love.

It's a fact that when GTA3 came out it was the first of a new generation, it was missing half of the stuff that GTA2 brought to the plate but it focused on creating a good engine and a living breathing world. It wasn't until GTA:VC and GTA:SA that they took the time to implement the new ideas, by which time they'd nailed getting the basic mechanics of the game right.

Yes - Just about what I expected

Its one of the best games of recent times that I have played, the fact that I have put nearly 50 hours in to it shows this, most other games wouldn't even get close to that with me.

Fantastic post mate. I 100% agree with everything you said there, and I'm glad you posted it (in particular the last paragraph) as I couldn't word it myself :)

Not once have I thought that the framerate was bad. In fact I am pleasantly surprised at how solid it is.

absolutely loved it, far better than san andreas, on par with vice city, and have no issues with it on the 360 (no slow down, very minimal pop in (not enough to notice unless i was trying to see it)) there's a good amount of story, with it not being long enough to be too repetitive (ala san andreas) but being good value for money, certanly something i'll play through twice, and easily worth the £45 i paid for it.

best game i've played since halo: CE when it arrived on the scene all those years ago

There you go the major let downs are very much in the minority with only just under 1 and 10 with over 66% thinking it's as good as the hype.

Decision is made.

i was actually quite let down by it iliked the buying property aspect and after i completed the most wanted police car missions on all islands i was expecting summin like a vest or summin delivered free to my houses but nothing. i actually prefered saints row it was a lot more customizable. the story lines good though and all looks good .

No, you seem to have forgotten how to read. This poll is saying is GTA4 as good as you expected.

I expected to be ok, nothing great, and that's what I got. The poll just shows how good people are at predicting the quality of the game, not if it's lived up to the hype.

+1
