GTA 4 Gay Tony Stutter

Just tried a 5770, and there's definitely stuttering going on, even at high framerates. It's a small pause (maybe quarter of a second or so) every now and again. I haven't fiddled with settings yet, but it's on the latest patch and the newest drivers from the ATI site.

Something is wrong with your systems guys, I dont get this.

I suspect you have something running in the background like a GPU monitor, sidebar gadget etc that is causing this

I don't think so, happens on clean installs, and I swapped my GTX280, which was fine, directly for a 5770 and I experienced the problem as soon as I started using the ATI card. It's something to do with the patches of GTA and catalyst drivers, as it hasn't always been a problem for a lot of people. There may be some hardware configs it's affecting and others it's not, but I have no doubt the problem is in a patch/catalyst.

FOr the multiple people in the thread saying their Nvidia cards are a problem, it would be safe to suggest it is NOT Ati, NOR Nvidia at fault, but the clowns coding the game...... badly.

Thing of it is, it runs like crap on the 360, and pc's, its not a bad port, its a bad game full stop, it doesn't look fantastic, or close to fantastic, the power drain isn't explained by any massively complex features in the game or top notch graphics because it has nothing really up to date in the game.

As someone said, you think the grass is always greener, but it NEVER is(well Tory/Labour argument aside :p ). There will be games AMD have problems in, there will be games Nvidia have problems in, having not played one on either side before and finding one on your newer card doesn't suddenly mean whoever you're with is awful and you should never use them again.

I had a 8800gtx, it was fantastic and VERY fast, in everything except its first 6 months on Vista 64bit, where there were dozens of games that had memory leak and driver issues, such is life. I'll use them again if they can offer a decent value card. If I didn't already have a 4870 I might well of gotten a 260gtx when they were finally cheap, timing played out that I went AMD. Obviously this gen is a no brainer.

Personally I wouldn't at all , even remotely consider looking at GTA4 as a measure of which company is better..... except to say that EVERYONE can do better than Rockstar did with GTA4.

OK, generic GTA IV ranting aside (there's an official thread full of that, we're all guilty), it has been an issue on some nvidia cards also, but I think as things stand, there is a specific problem restricted to ATI cards with slight hitching in the game. General stuttering in this game is common, it is coded badly, and requires a lot of grunt to get going smoothly, including a decent hard disk.

The issue to which I'm referring is fairly specific, and nvidia cards aren't affected as it stands, though they may suffer from other stuttering problems for various reasons.

if res 5 is anything to go by then having it off does lower image iq slightly.if you look closely you might see that edges are a bit fuzzy even when you use AA.

advanced can also sometimes lower iq but ive never took the time to study it so as a rule of thumb standard is the best option 24/7 UNLESS you run into problems like GTAIV.

still sucks tho doubtful it will be patched either

It should technically raise the image quality slightly as it'll use proper filtering methods (bilinear, trilinear, anosotropic) without "cutting corners" like optimasations do.

Interesting point though, I may have to compare this.
