GTA 4 performance

create a txt file and name it commandline.
open up the file and replace this in it exactly as it is copy and paste

-norestrictions
-nomemrestrict
-percentvidmem 100
-availablevidmem 4.0

once you have copy/pasted in these,put the txt file in rockstar/grand theft auto folder and run the game

If you're using the steam version, you need to start GTA with a shortcut pointing to the GTA4 Launcher to get the commandlione.txt file to work. Don't start it from Steam itself or this won't work.

Cavallino :

For fps use Fraps - www.fraps.com

I use the ENB mod without the AA. The lighting changes make the game look soooo much nicer and only cost about 10% FPS. Turning AA on costs about 50% FPS or more. I'm very pleased, looks really good and always runs above 30 FPS.

GTA has enforced restrictions because it s a lousy port from console so you need to lift these restrictions using commandline.txt,i play this game with 1xgtx 295 at maximum everything 1920 res,using nhancer,playing the game with 2xgtx 295 just crashes it after about 15 mins

create a txt file and name it commandline.

-nomemrestrict
-percentvidmem 100
-availablevidmem 4.0

once you have copy/pasted in these,put the txt file in rockstar/grand theft auto folder and run the game,now you will be able to run the game to its full potential with no restrictions and be able to alter your graphic setting because you have the availablevidmem..ie 4.0=4gb

That's not right unless you have 4 graphics cards?

The first number is the Vid Mem of ONE CARD
The second is the number of cards you have

So, I have 1GB which is 1024 not 1000 or 100
For someone who has 512MB and ONE CARD, they put 512 for first and 1.0 for second. Make sense? God knows what 4.0x100=400 you were thinking

I think the first should be a percentage and not an actual number though isnt it?

How well would GTA4 run on a Q8300 @ 2.5Ghz, 5770 and 3GB DDR2 800?
Very good without the AA mod.

For anyone looking for the mod, you can get it here. All you have to do is unzip into the GTAIV directory, then run GTAIV through Steam to get the Social Club window up, and run LaunchGTAIV.exe to play.

If you just want AA (not sure why), in the .ini change

UseEffect=true to UseEffect=false

If you want to turn off AA and just use the new lighting (like I do), then change

ForceAntialiasing=true to ForceAntialiasing=false

I also turn off these because they lag loads and don't really improve visuals.

EnableBloom=false
EnableAmbientOcclusion=false
EnableSkyLighting=false
UseOriginalPostProcessing=false

Love this ENB mod... tbh... even without AA its good.
The colours look more lighter with ENB.. does it do anything else apart from make it brighter?

Nice one cheers :)

Love the look of this, but performance is a bit carp going through busy areas. Will have a tweak tomorrow.

Do share your findings mate.

Tbh I didnt see much difference by enabling/disabling it with Shift F12. It seems to run at the same frame rate (although I cant confirm this as I do not have FRAPS).

Just using the Shift-F12 doesn't change the frame rate for some reason, if you properly remove it and run the game, it's a huge difference.

Very high on everything, and about 25 view distance, and half all the others.

When you load up the game you're loading it at 2x your resolution, so hitting Shift+F12 obviously doesn't change down your res, that's where you lose FPS. Shift+F12 simply enables or disables the AA but doesn't lower the resolution. Don't ask me how it works.

You need to restart the game to enable or disable the supersampling, but you can minimize and change all the others easily (makes it easy to compare settings).

installed enb series and all it shows is the top left quarter of the screen (fills the screen though)

Shift F12 doesnt change AA I think, I tried it multiple times looking at a jaggy and it never changed "smoothness" by pressing shift F12 repeatedly.

The only thing that does change is the colour i.e. its brighter and more clearer with ENB enabled and darker/duller with it disabled (i.e. when you press F12 to disable it).

Im not even sure if AA is on (presumably when you say super sampling you mean AA?)
I checked in the ini file and I think its disabled.

EDIT: Ah probably cause I have AA disabled in ini file means it wont make much difference frame rate wise :doh:

Im currently running 5770s in crossfire, is there anyway to determine if I am getting the performance I should be with these two cards?

Run Fraps and post what framerate you're getting. Or run the benchmark and post the results.

Running crossfired 5770's here, along with an [email protected] / 6gb 1440mhz and get 130'ish fps when in my apartment, and 60-70 fps when outside. Res is 1680x1050.
