GTA 4 problem

Hi I have just re-installed GTA 4 the game is really jerky has anyone got any ideas as to what the problem maybe I am also running COD modern warfare 1 & 2 without any problems.
I have tried reinstalling GTA a few times which has not helped.

Have you patched it to version 1.07?

A bit more info would help - what settings are you running it at?

It's a vastly more demanding game than CoD is and if you're trying to run stuff on high with the spec in your sig it won't manage it, nowhere near, you need to be looking at low-medium with a dual core and an 8800GTX (I don't think it uses SLI?)

I can't figure out how to patch the game.
I am not running SLI anymore because one of my cards has died.
I will restart the game & check the settings.

Settings (Auto)
Aspect ratio (Auto)
Texture quality (medium)
Render quality (High)
Resource usage 437/724MB

If your game isn't up-to-date when you sign into GFWL, it'll ask you to update it before you can play while signed in.

Since about the third or fourth patch, the game has been massively optimised (sure, it's not perfect, but I remember losing about 20fps when reverting to a previous patch when trying out a mod that wouldn't work on the latest patch at the time).

It could just be that you need to patch the game.

What do you score on the benchmark? Gta4 won't run very good on a dual-core with an 8800gtx. The benchmark isn't even a very good indicator of how the game will run but should show you if, as an application, gta4 isn't running correctly.

Put the detail level, view distance and traffic density down to 20. That might make it at least playable.

You really need a quad-core to get decent performance out of the game.

You're actually better off not having SLI, I discovered it was the cause of stuttering and flickering shadows for me.

I downloaded & installed graphics card & game updates the game is running fine now.
